This week we are reviewing the 2024 biographical legal thriller The Correspondent directed by Kriv Stenders.
The film stars Richard Roxburgh, Julian Maroun, Rahel Romahn, Yael Stone, and Mojean Aria.
The plot focuses on Australian foreign correspondent and journalist Peter Greste, who was arrested in Cairo and held in an Egyptian prison, and is adapted from Greste's 2017 memoir The First Casualty.
The Correspondent was released in Australia in April 2025. The Aussie and The Scotsman went to the Sun Theatre in Yarraville to watch a preview of the movie which was followed by a Q and A session with Peter Greste, Richard Roxburgh and Kriv Senders.
This podcast does not start off the way you would expect it. The Scotsman starts off by opening up about his childhood as a precursor to a connected story. It gets emotional and there are tears from both the boys.
Once we get through the first half of the podcast we are off and running - the movie itself is fantastic. And it was great to hear from the actor, the director and Peter Greste.
This is an engaging claustrophobic depiction of Peter's time in jail and his appearances in court. You don't need to watch the movie before you listen - the story is all over the internet.
