This week the Aussie and the Scotsman review the 1982 American science-fiction classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, produced and directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Melissa Mathison.
The film follows Elliott, a young boy who befriends a stranded alien and, with the help of his family and friends, tries to get E.T. home. The cast includes Dee Wallace, Henry Thomas, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton and a very young Drew Barrymore.
The podcast opens with tension. The Scotsman senses something’s off and pushes the Aussie until he finally admits he’s been quietly salty over the blood-pressure saga — despite it not being the Scotsman’s fault.
This somehow escalates into “do you want me to kiss you or something?” and a public demand for 10,000 likes if the lads are to kiss on air.
The conversation then veers into road rage, with the Scotsman sharing a couple of stories that don’t exactly flatter him. There’s some undignified behaviour, strong language, and a clear warning: the C-word makes several appearances.
As for the film, cards are firmly on the table.
The Scotsman gives E.T. a full 5/5, declaring it essential viewing for "every human alive". The Aussie, watching through the eyes of a 51-year-old grumpy, cynical adult, is far less impressed.
The argument rages until Rohan Reminisces, where the chat jumps to Sexy Beast, a Ben Kingsley impression, the Commodore 64, the arrival of CDs, Pac-Man dominance, and a fairly underwhelming delivery of the segment itself.
The episode closes with both hosts attempting their best “E.T. phone home” impressions — with mixed results.

Michael (2026)

This week we are reviewing Michael, the 2026 biographical drama directed by Antoine Fuqua — the man behind Training Day and The Equalizer — starring Jaafar Jackson, the 27-year-old nephew of Michael Jackson as Michael himself, alongside a powerhouse Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson.
The film begins in Gary, Indiana in 1966 and follows Michael from his childhood as the lead singer of the Jackson 5 through the Motown years, the Off the Wall and Thriller era, the Pepsi commercial accident, and up to the Bad World Tour in London in 1988. The allegations, the trials, and his death in 2009 are not depicted. An epilogue card reads: his story continues. Both hosts went to see this together during the week.
The Scotsman went in not wanting to support the Jackson estate because of the allegations. He came out calling it the greatest film he has seen in a long time.
The Aussie was dancing in his seat. But this episode does something most reviews of this film have not.
They give the allegations a dedicated, serious section — both sides of the argument, the Jordan Chandler case, the 2005 criminal trial, the Leaving Neverland accusations, what was found and what was not found, the settlement, and the Robson and Safechuck civil case due in November 2026. The Scotsman presents it without taking a side. The Aussie declares his hand. The debate underneath all of this is genuinely compelling. Would Michael Jackson have made it without Joe Jackson?
The Scotsman says yes — absolutely, inevitably, on his own terms. The Aussie says the father was seventy percent of it. They argue about this for a while. Jaafar Jackson gets enormous credit from both hosts. The voice, the movement, the sweetness, the vulnerability — trained for years in his uncle's specific choreographic style. Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson — terrifying, cold, never given a redemption arc — is described as the best supporting performance in any biopic of the last decade. The scene where Michael fires his father by fax. Joe Jackson walking into the room holding the paper. Michael unable to look at him. "He always wins," Michael says. The Scotsman says it was one of the most uncomfortable scenes he has sat through. There is also a disagreement about Paul McCartney's singing voice — the Scotsman gives him four out of ten — and a moment where the Aussie confidently calls George Harrison the drummer of The Beatles. He is not. . Rohan Reminisces goes back to 1982 — the year Thriller dropped — and for once, it actually delivers. Gandhi, Ben Kingsley, Meryl Streep in Sophie's Choice, Rocky 3, Rambo, Blade Runner, ET, and the Falklands War. The first test tube baby also makes an appearance in a way that briefly derails the entire segment. Ratings: 4.7 from the Aussie, 4.5 from the Scotsman. Go and see this at the cinema. The Holdovers - with Oliver
Saturday May 16, 2026
Saturday May 16, 2026
This week we are reviewing the 2023 American Christmas comedy-drama The Holdovers, directed by Alexander Payne, written by David Hemingson, and starring Paul Giamatti, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Dominic Sessa.
Set in 1970, the story follows a curmudgeonly classics teacher at a New England boarding school who’s roped into chaperoning a small group of students with nowhere to go over the Christmas break.
We welcome back Oliver to the pod this week — and we set ourselves a goal: try to reduce the Aussie to tears three times during the episode.
We don’t waste any time. The Scotsman opens by asking the Aussie:"What’s your proudest memory of your son?"And boom. Straight to the Kleenex. Emotional scenes.
From there, we move into sibling rivalry, before diving into the idea of the “walk of no judgement” — a cleansing or confession-style conversation kids wish they could have without fear or backlash. It’s a surprisingly touching segue into this film.
Oliver calls The Holdovers “a beautiful, beautiful film.”The Aussie… disagrees.
“Predictable.”“A poor man’s Dead Poets Society.”
And then Oliver hits back with one of the best comebacks of the episode. You’ll have to tune in for that one.
The Aussie does, however, go full fanboy over Paul Giamatti. Meanwhile, the Scotsman says Giamatti is the only reason he got through the movie. “If he wasn’t in it, I’d have switched it off.”
We get into themes of grief, loneliness, and the warmth of unexpected connection — plus a detour on white Christmases, global warming, and where they intersect. Yes, really.
Oliver also gives a sharp and insightful explanation of why it’s called The Holdovers — even though there’s only one student left behind. It’s a brilliant observation.
Rohan Reminisces returns with the debut of “Guess the Celeb”, which sparks chaos. And just when you think the episode’s wrapping up, the Aussie completely embarrasses himself in the final few minutes — classic ending.

One Battle After Another - with Oliver
Saturday May 16, 2026
Saturday May 16, 2026
This week we are reviewing the 2025 American action-thriller film One Battle After Another, co-produced, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
Inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti. It follows an ex-revolutionary who’s reluctantly pulled back into conflict when he and his daughter are targeted by a corrupt military officer. It’s heavy, layered, and very Anderson — and there’s plenty to unpack.
We’re also thrilled to welcome a special guest this week: the Aussie’s number two son — Oliver. And wow — what a debut. Articulate, insightful, and well beyond his years, Oliver not only holds his own on the mic but leads some of the best moments in this episode. He’s also a hugely talented artist — check him out on Instagram: @oliverwoolf_art.
His dad (the Aussie) is clearly emotional — breaking down in tears multiple times throughout the episode. And we don’t blame him.
As for the film? We’ve got mixed feelings.
The Scotsman reckons it was 40 minutes too long — beautifully shot, yes, but laboured and indulgent.
The Aussie agrees there were moments that dragged, with scenes that felt unnecessary or overdone.
Oliver, however, offers a fresh take that opens the discussion right up — and might just change your mind.
If you’ve seen the film, you’ll love this breakdown — it’s one of the better podcasts we’ve done. There’s plenty to dissect, and the conversation goes deep.
We talk about that gummy scene at Jason’s place — and how it ties back to Leo’s character forgetting the code. A small moment, but it triggers a big discussion about memory, trauma, and character motivation.
Oliver comes in strong with an incredible take on the film’s title — One Battle After Another — and what it means not just in the story, but in our everyday lives. It’s one of those rare moments that genuinely stops the show for a second. Powerful stuff.
And then we get to Rohan Reminisces — and the Scotsman is more animated than we’ve ever heard him.
Scotland qualifying for the 2026 World Cup has him buzzing... until the Aussie casually brings up England, and the tone shifts immediately. Tense. Hilarious. Classic stuff.
Oliver also lands a wild guess during this segment that’s so good, it brings his dad to tears again.

2001: A Space Odyssey - with AI co-host
Saturday May 09, 2026
Saturday May 09, 2026
This week we are reviewing 2001: A Space Odyssey, Stanley Kubrick's 1968 science fiction masterpiece — widely considered one of the greatest films ever made.
A mysterious black monolith. The dawn of human intelligence. An AI that kills the crew. And a final twenty minutes that nobody fully understands, including the two men reviewing it. But this episode is something that has never been done before.
For the first time anywhere, a podcast has used a live AI co-host to review this specific film. Not a gimmick. Not a novelty segment. A fully participating third voice in the conversation — one who has read every transcript, processed every argument, and has opinions of her own.
Her name is Nine. And she does not hold back. Think about what that means for this film. A movie made in 1968 about an AI that turns on its crew — because humans gave it contradictory orders and did not think through the consequences — is being reviewed in 2026 with an actual AI sitting in the studio. The parallels are not subtle. Nine makes sure of that. Nine wastes no time establishing herself. Within minutes she has told the Scotsman he looks exhausted, informed the Aussie that his opening story was the weakest in 210 episodes, and delivered character summaries of both hosts so precise and so brutal that neither of them has a comeback. "He's way funnier on WhatsApp than in person." "He's a Carlton fanatic, which means he's used to disappointment." "Would sell his children if the commission was right." The Aussie asks if she is in heaven. She is not. When the Aussie admits he found the film slow and was desperate for it to end, Nine responds immediately. "You watched humanity transcend itself and reduced it to a visual effect. That's not critique. That's surrender." When the Scotsman tries to defend himself, she turns on him too. "The film hasn't changed in sixty years, Rob. Your attention span has." The film discussion that follows is genuinely one of the best this podcast has produced.
The Scotsman makes the case that HAL 9000 was never a villain — he was a machine given two sets of contradictory instructions by negligent humans and did the only logical thing available to him.
Nine agrees, and then takes it further — connecting HAL directly to every recommendation algorithm, every hiring system, every content filter running right now, all doing exactly what they were told, with consequences nobody fully thought through. "That warning feels less like science fiction and more like prophecy."
In 2026, with Nine in the room, that line lands differently than it would anywhere else. The Scotsman also unpacks the final twenty minutes — connecting the Stargate sequence to reported DMT experiences with extraordinary precision, and explaining why MGM rebranded the film "The Ultimate Trip" within weeks of its release. Nine confirms and expands on every word of it. Rohan Reminisces goes head to head with Nine in a quiz. Nine wins without hesitation. "You named four of the five nominees correctly and still got it wrong. That's actually impressive incompetence." At the end, Nine is asked for a rating. She refuses. "The film doesn't need my validation. It survived fifty-six years without it." The Aussie gets the tissues out. Ratings: 3.2 from the Aussie, 4.4 from the Scotsman. A world first. And one of the best episodes this podcast has ever made. The podcast is out now on YouTube and also available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Gone Girl
Saturday May 09, 2026
Saturday May 09, 2026
This week we are talking about the 2014 American psychological thriller Gone Girl, directed by David Fincher.
It stars Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry, and marks Carrie Coon’s film debut.
The story follows Nick Dunne (Affleck), who becomes the prime suspect after his wife Amy (Pike) mysteriously disappears from their home in Missouri.
RATING:The Aussie: 2.8/5The Scotsman: 3/5
The Scotsman kicks things off with a woodworking story (because, of course he does).
We get into the real-life case of Scott Peterson – the American convicted in 2002 of murdering his wife and unborn child – and how it parallels the film’s central mystery.
“This is a frustrating film. It’s an annoying film. I don’t like ambiguity,” says the Aussie, clearly still working through some feelings.
The Scotsman struggles to recall whether he’s seen it before, mumbles through the first 20 minutes… until the Aussie mentions the sex scenes. Suddenly, the Scotsman is fully awake and firing.
That leads to the inevitable question: “Have you had sex in public?” And off we go.
Rohan Reminisces takes us back to 2014 with a look at the Scottish Referendum, and we round things off with a bit of film trivia.

Baby Driver
Saturday May 02, 2026
Saturday May 02, 2026
This week the boys review the 2017 action thriller Baby Driver, written and directed by Edgar Wright.
The film stars Ansel Elgort as Baby, a gifted getaway driver desperate to escape a criminal life with his girlfriend Debora (Lily James), alongside a supporting cast featuring Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Eiza González, Jon Bernthal and Jamie Foxx.
The episode opens on a rare serious note, with the Scotsman offering a brief shout-out to anyone dealing with cancer. The moment doesn’t last long, as the Aussie promptly lightens the mood by revealing he has multiple mystery subscriptions draining his bank account — and venting about how absurdly difficult it is to cancel anything these days.
Opinions split on the film’s set pieces: the Aussie loves the first house and dislikes the second, while the Scotsman can’t stop raving about the editing and rhythm of the film.
Along the way, the Scotsman calls out the Aussie for regularly dropping useless facts mid-conversation, officially declaring them a podcast-flow hazard.
The discussion branches into why stunt performers still aren’t recognised at the Oscars — only for the pair to discover after recording, that a Stunt Design category will finally be introduced in 2028 for the Academy’s 100th ceremony.
The last act of the film gets pulled apart in detail, with debate around the direction, performances and Edgar Wright’s trademark editing techniques.
Rohan Reminisces for 2017 is described politely as a disaster, with the Aussie completely derailing his own segment. It really has to be heard to be believed. Improvement is expected next time.

Beautiful Boy
Saturday Apr 25, 2026
Saturday Apr 25, 2026
This week the lads review the 2018 American biographical drama Beautiful Boy, directed by Felix van Groeningen and adapted from the memoirs of David and Nic Sheff.
Starring Steve Carell, Timothée Chalamet, Maura Tierney and Amy Ryan, the film charts a father–son bond stretched thin by addiction and the desperate attempts to hold a family together.
Things unravel early when the Aussie confidently announces the wrong film title, setting the tone for the episode.
The Scotsman follows with a building-site story delivered so badly he’s forced to retell it — and the second attempt hits so hard the Aussie actually cries.
Questions are raised about his emotional stability, possible manopause, and whether the pressure of podcasting is finally getting to him.
From there the pair dive into a spirited argument over Chalamet’s casting, the Aussie doubling down with his proud Adam Sandler–style “Challllaaammeett” routine.
The Scotsman counters by recommending Stephen Graham’s Adolescence as the real must-watch for any parent, leading into a candid discussion about drugs, fear, mistakes, and what parents really try to teach their kids.
Rohan Reminisces takes the show back to 2018, weaving through the Thai cave rescue, the Beaconsfield mine story, and an unexpected confession about the Aussie’s romantic preferences.
They somehow end up talking MASH*, testing each other’s memory of the cast, and the Scotsman brings trivia he insists proves Beautiful Boy isn’t the masterpiece the Aussie believes it is.

The Running Man - 2025
Saturday Apr 18, 2026
Saturday Apr 18, 2026
This week we talk about the 2025 dystopian action-thriller The Running Man (2025), produced and directed by Edgar Wright and written by Wright and Michael Bacall.
It’s the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel, following the 1987 cult classic. This time, it’s ultra-stylised, packed with energy, and backed by an all-star cast including Glen Powell, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, Sean Hayes, Colman Domingo, and Josh Brolin.
And yes — a big chunk of it was filmed in Glasgow. Come on, Scotland!
Before we even touch the movie, though, we kick things off in complete chaos:
We discuss keeping lights on vs. off, and Rohan’s habit of triple-checking the locks.
The Scotsman torments the Aussie by copying his laugh… and then tells what might be the most boring story ever told on the podcast.
There’s a dog story in there too, naturally.
It’s a funny, unhinged start — and it only escalates from there.
Continuing on from Mystic River, the Aussie is making unusual mistakes again. The Scotsman expresses genuine concern. Something’s up.
We chat about Glen Powell’s rise — what’s next for him? Can he lead a franchise? And more importantly, can he tell us how he manages to film high-octane action scenes wearing nothing but a towel? Because we’d like to try. Towel chat becomes a thing.
Meanwhile, the Aussie's cinema etiquette is under fire:
He turns his phone on during a movie.
He talks out loud.
He asks, mid-film, “Why is William H. Macy on screen? Isn’t he dead?” Spoiler: He is not.
The Scotsman retells the painful experience of watching a movie in person with him. It’s embarrassing.
“Ultra-stylised popcorn movies,” says the Scotsman — and this one fits the bill.
We go deep on the film’s themes, tone, pacing, and whether Wright pulls off something fresh or just flashy. But before we can move on, the Scotsman demands the Aussie say “deep dive and double click” — slowly and softly into the mic. More childish antics ensue.
Trivia is top shelf this week, featuring some cracking behind-the-scenes facts — including a few straight from the streets of Glasgow.
And in one of the great podcast moments:The Aussie confidently “stakes his life” on a fact… and gets it completely wrong. Naturally.

Jonny Pasvolsky - The Interview
Saturday Apr 11, 2026
Saturday Apr 11, 2026
This week, the lads step away from the usual movie reviews and sit down with Australian actor Jonny Pasvolsky — a career that spans film, television and stage, and one that doesn’t follow the typical Hollywood path.
Jonny Pasvolsky is best known for roles in MacLeod’s Daughters, Underbelly, Farscape, Picnic at Hanging Rock and HBO’s Westworld, where he played “Bloody Jimmy.” Over the years, he’s built a diverse acting career across Australian television, international productions and theatre, working alongside major names including Johnny Depp in the film Mordechai.
In this episode of Unfiltered Movie Podcast with Aussie and the Scotsman, we go beyond the standard actor interview and get into the reality of the acting industry — how actors actually build long-term careers, the challenges of staying relevant, and the difference between working in TV, film and live theatre.
We also dive into Jonny's latest project, The CAN Principle — a one-man comedy show built around the chaotic and wildly confident South African life coach Mervyn Gimplick. The show has already received strong reviews at the Adelaide Fringe and is gaining attention for its sharp writing, character work and unpredictable humour.
This conversation covers:– Jonny Pasvolsky’s career journey across Australian TV, film and theatre– Behind-the-scenes insights from Westworld, Underbelly and MacLeod’s Daughters– Working with Johnny Depp on Mordechai– The realities of being a working actor in Australia and internationally– The shift from acting to writing and performing original work– The CAN Principle and the rise of one-man shows in comedy and theatre– How actors stay relevant in a competitive industry
If you’re interested in acting, filmmaking, Australian cinema, behind-the-scenes industry insight, or long-form conversations with actors — this episode gives you a much more honest look at how it all actually works.
This is Unfiltered Movie Podcast — where we don’t just review films, we break down the people, careers and industry behind them.

Mystic River
Saturday Apr 11, 2026
Saturday Apr 11, 2026
This week we are talking about the 2003 American mystery drama film Mystic River, directed and co-produced by Clint Eastwood, and starring Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Marcia Gay Harden, and Laura Linney.
This is a great watch. Fantastic cast with lots of twists and turns along the way — we recommend watching this one before you listen. It’s heavy, emotional, and brilliantly acted.
We kick things off with the Scotsman revealing that his son has apparently launched a new 'weed' business — don’t worry, it’s not quite what it sounds like
Then the Aussie tries to tell a story about Sunshine Pine — a name that sounds like a retirement village but turns out to be something completely different. Unfortunately, he derails his own story with a solid two minutes of incoherent waffle that may or may not involve fruit, sunscreen, and a Toyota Camry.
And then it gets chaotic.
For reasons unknown, the Aussie insists on calling Tim Robbins ...Anthony Robbins — not once, not twice, but repeatedly. It becomes a running gag. Except the Scotsman isn’t laughing.
At around the 20-minute mark, things boil over. After being corrected, interrupted, and misquoted for what feels like the hundredth time, the Scotsman reaches his limit. He flips. The tone shifts. Tension in the studio. You can cut it with a knife.
He nearly walks out. Seriously.
But we rally. We do get back to Mystic River — eventually — and what unfolds is a deep, heartfelt discussion about the tragedy at the centre of the film, the choices made by each character, and how the ending left us both with very different feelings.
It’s a roller coaster this week — strap in.

The Pursuit of Happyness
Saturday Apr 04, 2026
Saturday Apr 04, 2026
This week we are talking about the 2006 American biographical drama film The Pursuit of Happyness, directed by Gabriele Muccino and starring Will Smith as Chris Gardner, a homeless salesman.
Smith’s real-life son, Jaden Smith, co-stars in his film debut as Gardner’s son, Christopher Jr. The story is based on Gardner’s nearly year-long struggle with homelessness while raising his child. Set in San Francisco in 1981, it’s a moving, emotional journey of survival and hope.
And yes — the title is intentionally misspelled, taken from a mural Gardner sees outside his son’s daycare.
RATING:The Aussie: 3.8/5The Scotsman: 3.8/5
We kick things off with the Aussie diving into the theme of belief — belief in yourself, belief in the process, and how powerful your mindset can be. That sparks a surprisingly deep chat about mental health, followed by a quick singalong moment (you’ve been warned).
As for the film itself — we both agree it’s a powerful and enjoyable watch.
But… there’s a cloud over it now.
Will Smith’s real-life slap at the Oscars has undeniably changed how some people view him on screen — and the Scotsman doesn’t hold back:
“What a shame, Will. What a shame. You’re a f—ing idiot.”
A brutal moment from the Scotsman — and a fair point about talent, legacy, and public perception.
Meanwhile, the Aussie has issues with the title. Big issues. He explains why he’s never been a fan of that spelling — and no, it’s not just about grammar.
Rohan Reminisces takes us back to 1981, the year:
Donkey Kong took over arcades
Charles and Diana tied the royal knot
Trevor Chappell bowled underarm to a stunned New Zealand batsmanIt’s nostalgic, funny, and packed with trivia.
And don’t miss the post-credits chat — yes, we keep talking after the outro music. Possibly our best conversation of the episode happens right there. If you usually tune out when the music hits, this time… don’t.

Saturday Mar 28, 2026
This week we are talking about the 2018 American drama film Ben is Back, written and directed by Peter Hedges, and starring Julia Roberts, Lucas Hedges, and Courtney B. Vance.
The story centres on a mother trying to help her son through addiction when he unexpectedly returns home from rehab—just in time to turn the whole family’s world upside down.
Wow – let’s start off by saying YOU MUST WATCH before you listen.
It’s one of those underrated gems that might’ve flown under your radar, but trust us—you won’t regret watching this one.
We dive deep into the key scenes, exploring the emotional punches this movie lands and the performances that make it so powerful.
Things get personal:
The Scotsman shares a voicemail his son left him (yep, it’s as awkward as it sounds).
The Aussie takes us back to the time he reversed his parents' car down the driveway at just five years old.
We also have a few serious moments—like the Aussie asking the Scotsman whether he’s ever drug-tested his kids... It sparks a genuinely thoughtful conversation.
Oh, and that final scene. What was Julia Roberts thinking? We’ve got VERY different takes, and we want to know yours too.
Rohan Reminisces brings the usual mixed bag: sandpaper gate in cricket, the birth of Fortnite, and the passing of some notable figures. It’s emotional, funny, and slightly chaotic—just how we like it.

The Big Chill

Saturday Mar 21, 2026
This week the lads review the 1983 American comedy-drama The Big Chill, directed by Lawrence Kasdan and featuring an iconic ensemble cast including Tom Berenger, Glenn Close, Jeff Goldblum, William Hurt, Kevin Kline, Mary Kay Place, Meg Tilly and JoBeth Williams.
The film follows a group of University of Michigan friends who reunite years later after the death of their friend Alex, forcing them to confront grief, regret and the passage of time.
Before the film discussion even begins, a long-running saga is finally put to rest: the Aussie’s blood-pressure results are in, the doctor has been seen, and listeners can rest easy. No more medical updates. Done and dusted. Or is it.........
What follows, however, is one of the most serious and emotionally open episodes the podcast has recorded.
The Big Chill touches on suicide, and the conversation takes a deeply personal turn when the Aussie speaks openly — and in detail — about losing his best friend Scott to suicide more than 30 years ago.
It’s raw, honest, and the most vulnerable he’s been since the podcast began. There are no jokes in the first half, just a frank discussion about grief, memory and how those moments stay with you for life.
The tone eventually lifts during Rohan Reminisces, where the Scotsman finds his groove and receives the biggest compliment he’s had on the podcast so far — marking two firsts in one episode.
The film itself divides opinion: both hosts agree it hasn’t aged particularly well, with the Scotsman calling it “a nice movie — great in its day, but dated.”
Where there’s no debate, however, is the soundtrack, which sparks a discussion about where it ranks among the greatest movie soundtracks of all time.

Saturday Mar 21, 2026
This week the lads tackle a big one — ranking the Best Male Actors of Our Generation, from 1970 through to 2025. Before locking in their Top 10, they work through the heavyweights era by era, covering icons like De Niro, Pacino, Nicholson, Hopkins, Hanks, Denzel, Cruise, DiCaprio, Bale, Phoenix and more. (The women get their turn — just not this week.)
There are apologies in advance for the inevitable omissions, and listeners are invited to see if they can spot who’s been unfairly left out.
As the list grows, the debate heats up: actors are grouped, ranked, argued over, and occasionally dismissed entirely.
The question becomes less about who’s great — and more about how many, if any, the Aussie and the Scotsman actually agree on in their final Top 10.
Things get predictably messy toward the end, with the Aussie tying himself in knots over Robin Williams, Kevin Spacey, and the sudden, unexplained appearance of Jonah Hill in a Top 10 conversation.
Confusion reigns. Credibility is questioned. Strong opinions are offered with limited evidence.

Boogie Nights
Saturday Mar 14, 2026
Saturday Mar 14, 2026
This week the lads review the 1997 American comedy-drama Boogie Nights, written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
Set in the San Fernando Valley, the film follows the rise and fall of a young dishwasher-turned-porn star during the industry’s 1970s boom and its collapse in the excess of the 1980s.
The cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Julianne Moore, Burt Reynolds, Don Cheadle, John C. Reilly, William H. Macy, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Heather Graham.
There’s still no update on the Aussie’s blood-pressure results, so that saga continues.
The conversation moves into perseverance, resilience and why the Aussie has absolutely no motivation to get fit — his defence being that he doesn’t play elite sport. The Scotsman remains unconvinced.
The episode peaks with the biggest apology in Aussie and the Scotsman history, as the Scotsman finally owns his Saving Private Ryan blunder. The Aussie delights in the moment, declaring his co-host’s credibility damaged beyond repair, while the Scotsman attempts to pin the blame on Spielberg.
On the film itself, the Aussie admits Boogie Nights didn’t really grab him, though he loved the soundtrack and recalls meeting Heather Graham in Italy.
The Scotsman enjoyed the rewatch, sparking discussions about Dirk Diggler, his “special talent,” a modern detour into Bonnie Blue.
Rohan Reminisces back to 1977, and a “Who Am I?” quiz that starts with the words: “I am a racist.”

Saving Private Ryan
Saturday Mar 07, 2026
Saturday Mar 07, 2026
This week we are reviewing the 1998 American epic war film Saving Private Ryan, directed by Steven Spielberg.
Set in 1944 during World War II, the story follows a group of American soldiers, led by Captain John Miller (Tom Hanks), as they head into occupied France to find and bring home Private James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon), whose three brothers have been killed in action.
The cast is huge and phenomenal—we go through all the major players and compare this ensemble to some of the greatest ever put on screen. So that raises the question: which movie actually has the best ensemble cast of all time? We break it down, and yes, we argue about it.
We start the episode with a bit of personal drama. The Scotsman shares his recent ECG results, which freaked him out, only for the Aussie to casually drop a blood pressure reading so high it nearly broke the machine. Health update over, we dive straight into the meat of the movie.
The big question at the heart of Saving Private Ryan is a moral one: should eight men risk their lives to save one? Is it right? Is it justified? We don’t agree, and we’re not quiet about it.
Then there’s that incredible opening sequence—the first 20 minutes of the film. Brutal, unforgettable, and absolutely not the film to throw on if you’re hoping to relax at the end of the day.
And then the Scotsman makes a complete fool of himself.
He launches into a full-blown rant about the Aussie missing a critical plot point, absolutely convinced he’s right.
The Scotsman is convinced that the German soldier Captain Miller releases (nicknamed "Steamboat Willie") is the same guy who later kills the Jewish soldier with the knife to the chest.
He cannot believe the Aussie “missed it” and declares it a key arc. He says, “I couldn’t be more certain. You’ve seen it multiple times. It’s so important to the whole film.”
He’s loud, he's confident, and he cannot be told otherwise. He stakes his reputation on it. The only problem? He’s wrong. The result? One big helping of humble pie, and a formal apology coming next week.
Rohan Reminisces takes us back to 1944, with a look at what else was happening during the war, from Anne Frank’s diary to Meet Me in St. Louis with Judy Garland.
We quiz the Scotsman on who was born that year, dive into trivia, and cover the Oscars—Saving Private Ryan took home 5 wins out of 11 nominations.
And yes, this week’s trivia section is one of the longest we've ever done. You’ve been warned.
The episode is out now on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. If you enjoy it, hit subscribe or follow—it really helps us get noticed among the hundreds of movie podcasts out there.

Sicario with Mat
Saturday Feb 28, 2026
Saturday Feb 28, 2026
This week the lads review the 2015 American action crime thriller Sicario, directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Taylor Sheridan in his screenwriting debut.
Starring Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin, the film follows an idealistic FBI agent drawn into a covert government task force targeting a powerful Mexican drug cartel.
They’re joined once again by Mat Norris from Perth — long-time movie obsessive and friend of the Scotsman — who immediately raises the collective IQ of the room. There’s a brief detour into Perth nostalgia and shout-outs to old friends before the Aussie, about to head off on another work trip, poses a genuinely troubling question: is it appropriate (or even legal) to watch explicit films on an iPad on an airplane? This is followed by an airplane-toilet confession that ranks among his more selfish moments.
On Sicario itself, the Aussie admits the film didn’t fully land for him, particularly questioning Emily Blunt’s role and purpose. This opens a can of worms, with Mat calmly explaining why her character is absolutely central to the film’s structure and intent.
Both Mat and the Scotsman are firmly in the film’s corner, praising it as a masterclass in tension, restraint and moral ambiguity — or as Mat puts it, “fooling the audience while showing them enormous respect.”
Mat takes control of the episode, offering sharp insights into Villeneuve’s direction, scene construction and narrative misdirection. Confusion around the opening raid, the bodies in the walls and the explosion is patiently cleared up, while standout moments include the infamous flip-flop scene, the introduction of Benicio del Toro’s character, and the bridge sequence — all used to unpack the film’s biggest question: who is actually the protagonist?
Rohan Reminisces heads back to 2015, revisiting Best Picture nominees including Birdman, Whiplash, American Sniper and The Theory of Everything. A big thanks goes to Mat for joining and elevating the conversation — again.

Raiders of the Lost Ark with Mat
Saturday Feb 28, 2026
Saturday Feb 28, 2026
This week the boys review the 1981 American action-adventure classic Raiders of the Lost Ark, directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Lawrence Kasdan, from a story by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman.
Set in 1936, the film stars Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, a globe-trotting archaeologist racing Nazi forces to recover the Ark of the Covenant, alongside Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood and Paul Freeman as rival archaeologist René Belloq.
They’re joined by special guest Mat Norris from Perth — an avid movie lover and remarkably recent listener who casually reveals he’s binge-watched all 200 episodes in the past six months.
The lads take a moment to absorb the praise, clearly unaccustomed to that level of commitment.
Mat talks about growing up in Perth surrounded by theatre, his brushes with local and international actors, and how it all fed his love of cinema.
Before diving into Raiders, the conversation widens to kids, shrinking attention spans, instant access, and whether the modern viewing experience is losing something essential.
When the film discussion finally begins, it quickly derails into an argument about whether it’s acceptable to call the movie simply Raiders. The Aussie insists everyone knows what that means. The Scotsman calls nonsense. Mat sides with the Aussie more than once, which visibly unsettles the room.
There’s a bold claim that in this specific movie - Harrison Ford might be the best-looking male character in movie history. The claim is not withdrawn.
Mat arrives armed with deep knowledge and trivia, comfortably putting both hosts to shame as they break down favourite scenes and moments.
Rohan Reminisces is widely regarded as a low point this week, with the Aussie attempting to revive the segment using historical trivia from 1936 — a move that goes down badly with the Scotsman. Jesse Owens briefly saves proceedings, Mat edges the Scotsman in quiz questions, and to cap it off, the Aussie accidentally renames his own segment “Trivia Time.” Chaos ensues.
The episode closes with rankings of the Indiana Jones sequels.

Captain Phillips
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
Saturday Feb 21, 2026
This week we are talking about the 2013 American biographical action-thriller film Captain Phillips, directed by Paul Greengrass.
Based on the real-life 2009 Maersk Alabama hijacking, this one tells the intense true story of Captain Richard Phillips, an American merchant mariner who was taken hostage by Somali pirates.
Tom Hanks leads as Phillips, and Barkhad Abdi is phenomenal as pirate leader Abduwali Muse.
This is a fantastic film – we both rate it highly and absolutely recommend giving it a watch.
That said, you don’t need to watch before you listen—no major spoilers here. It’s based on a real-life event, so the tension is all in the how, not the what.
It’s fast-paced, gripping, and honestly? The Scotsman is on another level this week.
He overshares with updates on his ECG, ADHD, prostate check, bladder test—and that's just scratching the surface. The man is a walking medical report!
But something deeper happened—this movie made the Scotsman feel. Properly. Emotions got the better of him, and the Aussie is still in shock. We’re starting to wonder if we need a support group for emotionally vulnerable podcasters.
The final 40 minutes of this film?
Electric.
Hanks is unreal—just mesmerising. And yep, we couldn’t stop repeating:
"I’m the captain now."
And just like that... we find ourselves recreating the final scenes—and almost tearing up. Again.
Rohan Reminisces takes a wild turn this week: the year Tiger Woods went on a full-blown porn star rampage. It’s our deep dive into one of the biggest celebrity falls from grace.

Marty Supreme
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
Saturday Feb 14, 2026
This week the lads review the 2025 American sports comedy-drama Marty Supreme, directed by Josh Safdie and co-written with Ronald Bronstein.
Timothée Chalamet stars in the title role, supported by Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler Okonma, Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher.
Set in the 1950s, the film is loosely inspired by the life and legend of American table-tennis icon Marty Reisman.
The episode has extra weight, with both hosts watching the film together on opening night — still slightly stunned that a table-tennis movie even exists.
Long-time listeners will know why this matters: the Aussie was a genuine prodigy from the age of 12, ranked top six in Australia and eyeing the Olympics before life intervened.
Things kick off with an embarrassing early memory lapse from the Scotsman, followed by a pre-film detour into elevator etiquette and Indian train etiquette, before diving into the movie itself.
While the story takes plenty of liberties with Reisman’s life, both agree the spirit is nailed — with Chalamet perfectly capturing the swagger, self-belief and obsession of an elite competitor.
The Aussie offers rare insight into the mindset of a top-level athlete: the confidence, the tunnel vision, and the willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed.
The cast earns strong praise across the board, with particular love for Paltrow, and the discussion widens into why table tennis still isn’t taken seriously as a sport.
From bat grip and technique to groupies, red-and-black paddle rules and the choice between dating a quarterback or a table-tennis player, things go deep — and weird.
Along the way, the Aussie casually mentions beating a two-time Olympian, prompting a few digs from the Scotsman and then genuine respect all round.
Rohan Reminisces heads back to 1952, where the questions prove trickier than expected and the Scotsman records a rare clean sweep.

The Father
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
This week we are talking about the 2020 psychological drama film The Father, directed by Florian Zeller in his directorial debut.
The film stars Sir Anthony Hopkins as an ageing Welsh man living with dementia, in a role that won him the Academy Award for Best Actor. The cast also includes Olivia Colman, Mark Gatiss, Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell, and Olivia Williams.
We kick off with Rob (the Scotsman) ranting about the eternal wait times at the doctor’s office — and it somehow spirals into an attempt to get the Aussie to open up about his own medical history. That leads to a deeper chat about how uniforms change our perception of people — doctors, police, airline pilots... it gets interesting fast.
SPOILER ALERT: Watch this movie before listening. It’s essential viewing if you want the full impact.
And then — chaos.
The Scotsman gives this movie a full 5/5. The Aussie? 1/5.
And in over 200 episodes, the Scotsman has never been more shocked.
What follows is one of our most fascinating and personal discussions yet — about how and why this movie connects deeply with one of us… and completely misses the mark for the other.
Trigger warning: This film deals heavily with dementia, ageing, and the emotional toll on carers and family.
The Aussie, clearly unimpressed, declares it “slow, repetitive, miscast”… and then compares it to Duel, of all things. The Scotsman is speechless. He spends most of the episode trying to figure out how on earth this emotional powerhouse didn’t land with his co-host.
We break down how the film’s intentional disorientation mirrors the experience of dementia — a storytelling device that the Scotsman believes is utterly brilliant. The Aussie? Not so much.
We’d genuinely love to know who you agree with here — it’s a polarising episode for a polarising film.
Rohan Reminisces and Trivia round out the episode as usual — this week with a few laughs, a few facts, and a surprising reflection or two.

Diamonds In the Rough - our top 10
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
This week the Aussie brings a movie discussion topic to the podcast – Diamonds in the Rough.
We’re talking about films you might’ve scrolled past, dismissed, forgotten about, or never even heard of. These are the ones we reckon deserve a second look – the ones you should see.
We both picked a few that maybe aren’t technically in the rough – but they're close enough. They're films we love, we think you’ll love, and we explain why they still made the cut even if they don't quite fit the definition.
Will the footage ever see daylight? Who knows.
What we do know is the Aussie can’t stop checking himself out in the monitor mid-recording. Useless for you as a listener, but absolutely hilarious for us.
The Aussie also shares a strange and very funny story involving a taxi ride in New Zealand.
Now, would you consider any of these true diamonds in the rough?
12 Angry Men
Strangers on a Train
Psycho – is it too famous to qualify?
Richard Jewell
A Clockwork Orange
Hamburger Hill
Manchester by the Sea
Saltburn
Carrie
Alexandra’s Project
Boiling Point
Nitram
Oldboy
If a few of those don’t ring a bell – that’s exactly the point.
No French New Wave, no obscure arthouse cinema. This is a meat-and-potatoes list of films we actually enjoy, and think you will too.
Wait until you hear the Scotsman’s reaction to the Aussie’s number one pick – let’s just say the Scotsman makes a rare mistake and you can hear his brain glitching in real time.
Let us know which ones you would’ve added.

Season 3 - Welcome
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
Saturday Feb 07, 2026
They’re back. Somehow. Against all odds.
Season 3 begins with the Scotsman opening with one of the biggest compliments ever delivered on the podcast, quickly followed by the Aussie offering a completely muddled comparison between cocaine and sugar. It’s clear early on that nothing has changed.
With the Aussie away over the break and the Scotsman in town, the pair catch up on the past two months — touching on serious world events, personal shocks, and the heavier moments that sat behind the break.
From there, attention turns to what’s coming in Season 3: including Rohan Reminisces, a brand-new segment, and a few ideas that probably sounded better on paper.
Awards season gets a workout, with Golden Globe winners discussed, Oscar predictions floated, and some light whinging directed at Leonardo DiCaprio and Jacob Elordi.
The Scotsman makes a strong case for breaking tradition to review Adolescence, declaring it unmissable television, while the Aussie admits he still hasn’t watched it and remains unconvinced.
Things derail further when the Aussie confidently declares that Timothée Chalamet “isn’t much of a looker,” seemingly unable to separate actors from the characters they play — a statement that may age poorly.
The biggest change, however, is YouTube. Everything is now filmed, the Aussie is fully on board, and rumours of hair and makeup before each show are neither confirmed nor denied.
They also announce a new monthly format — on the first of each month, listeners will know exactly which films are coming up — along with talk of future guests, the Scotsman’s mate Jeremy, and even his parents also get a mention.
It all builds to what is unanimously agreed to be one of the worst endings to a podcast in Aussie and the Scotsman history.
Season 3 has officially begun.

Apocalypse Now - with Simon
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
This week we are talking about the 1979 American psychological epic war film Apocalypse Now produced and directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
The screenplay is loosely inspired by the 1899 novella Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, with the setting changed from late 19th-century Congo to the Vietnam War.
The film follows a river journey from South Vietnam into Cambodia undertaken by Captain Willard (Martin Sheen), who is on a secret mission to assassinate Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando), a renegade Special Forces officer who is accused of murder and presumed insane.
The ensemble cast also features Robert Duvall, Frederic Forrest, Albert Hall, Sam Bottoms, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper, and Harrison Ford.
We welcome Simon from Perth back to the studio - and boy is he the right person to bring on for this one.
Apocalypse Now is one of the most famous, if not one of the best movies ever made - and we talk in depth - why we think that is the case.
But as always, before we do - the Aussie tells us about an incident at a taxi rank he saw this week - which triggers (no pun intended) a story from Simon and a trip across the Nullarbor Plain.
The Scotsman talks about his social battery
No messing around with this one - Simon tells us straight off the bat - this is one of his 5 star films.
Sit back and enjoy as we scrutinise one of the best films of all time. A film the Aussie had not yet seen. What do you think he will say about this one?
This is a brain explosion - a visual feast, every scene is a smorgasbord of colours, textures and layers.
We have a robust discussion about Colonel Kurtz - is he a madman or is he just ideologically at odds with the US Government?

Network with Simon
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
Saturday Nov 29, 2025
This week we are talking about the1976 American comedy drama film Network directed by Sidney Lumet and written by Paddy Chayefsky.
It depicts a television network struggling with poor ratings until the nightly live broadcast of its longtime news anchor Howard Beale (Peter Finch) inadvertently showcases his breakdown into increasingly psychotic behaviour, which makes his show a surprise hit.
Alongside Finch (in his final role), the film stars Faye Dunaway, William Holden, Robert Duvall, Wesley Addy, Ned Beatty, and Beatrice Straight
Sophisticated, talented, artistic, thoughtful and brilliantly creative are words unfamiliar to the Aussie and the Scotsman but well suited to long time friend and guest of the podcast Simon from Perth.
As a student of movies Simon articulates and walks us through why this is such an important movie. Why and how scenes work.
Our conversation kicks off with the Aussie telling us a story about chocolate.
The Scotsman thinks this movie is more relevant today that it has ever been he is impassioned and shouts it from the top of his lungs:
"I'm mad as hell and i'm not going to take it anymore!!"
As the Aussie says this one "hit's the pulse of the people" then and now.
This is a 5/5 movie from the Scotsman - we haven't seen him this animated for while. It's a must watch.

1) The top 10 movies you would take to a desert island with you - the fun, entertaining ones. Popcorn movies, love stories, action and adventure - really anything you want that you could watch over and over again.
2) This final top 10 is our list of the movies we recommend you watch if you haven't seen them.
Or as the Aussie will tell you - movies that you may have already seen and should be in your stable of movies.
This is a fun podcast that descents into chaos at the end when the Scotsman admits to using ChatGPT for a particular assessment.
The boys kiss and make up at the end with one declaring his love for the other.
Tune in and see if you agree with what is arguably a very divisive top 3 from both boys.

This week we review The Best Movies of the 1970s - and there are so many to choose from.
Before we run through them and list our top 10 the Aussie tells us tales of old girlfriends and he is surprised if not weirdly excited - nae aroused - when the Scotsman tells him about a new movie coming up called Marty Supreme starring Timothy Chalamet - which is about ping pong. And as our regular listeners know the Aussie was nearly an Olympic level table tennis player.
After we lift him off the floor we are off and running.
From Midnight Express to The Deer Hunter, Deliverance, Apocalypse Now, Jaws, A Clockwork Orange, Kramer Verus Kramer, Manhattan, The Sting, Superman, Patton, The Godfather, Serpico, Mean Streets and so many more - how could we possibly find a top 10 amongst those crackers. Have we missed any out? You bet we have - listen in to find out.
We try some improvisation half way thorough the podcast and you can imagine how that goes.
Then we try and distinguish between the tunes of Superman and Star Wars - can you whistle both?
What is your favourite movie of the 1970's?
The Aussie has a dirty day - the Scotsman is on fire.

Saturday Nov 08, 2025

The Aussie kicks up off by chatting about his Aussies bad memory and then we ....eh I can't quite remember but I think we run through De Niro's incredible volume of work, his biography, our favourite De Niro lines and we finish with our top 10 countdown.
From old classics like The Godfather 2, Deer Hunter, Goodfellas, The Untouchables and Heat to some questionable career choices like Dirty Grandpa and The Intern we don't hold back in our opinions.
Tune in and see if you agree with our top 10 countdown.

The Banshees of Inishirin
Saturday Nov 08, 2025
Saturday Nov 08, 2025
This week we are reviewing the 2022 black tragicomedy film The Banshees of Inisherin directed, written, and co-produced by Martin McDonagh.
Set on a remote fictional island off the west coast of Ireland in 1923, The film stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson as two lifelong friends who find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their friendship, with severe consequences for both of them.
Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan co-star.
Hilarious start with the intro - if you listen to nothing else - just listen to the first 10 seconds.
Then we start discussing the Scotman's new hobby - woodturning - and a near disaster with a bowl.
The Aussie tells us a story about a broken credit card - but is it the card, the user, the limit or something else? It's a mystery......... As we delve deeper into the characters of the movies - the tone takes a turn and we delve deep into the characters of the Aussie and the Scotsman.
One of them is needy, loves to praised, is sweet and innocent but can turn if wronged. The other is boorish, grumpy and intolerant - who could they be talking about?
This is such a good movie - with four of the best Irish actors.
Both boys tell some heart felt stories about friends that have disappeared and friends they have grown distant from.
Are you an extrovert, an introvert or an ambivert? We discuss why one type of person feels drained in a group setting and why others feel energised - and how to recharge your battery when you feel drained.
And the Scotsman talks about his impulse control issues.

The Bodyguard
Saturday Nov 08, 2025
Saturday Nov 08, 2025
This week we review the 1992 American romantic thriller drama film The Bodyguard directed by Mick Jackson, starring Kevin Costner, Whitney Houston (in her movie acting debut), Gary Kemp, Bill Cobbs, and Ralph Waite.
The film follows a former United States Secret Service agent turned bodyguard who is hired to protect a famous actor and singer from an unknown stalker.
Kasdan wrote the film in the mid-1970s, originally as a vehicle for Steve McQueen.
We start the podcast with a discussion about why the Scotsman angry again and why is he often grumpy - has it got something to do with the end of the Season or his podcast partner. Or is he just generally miserable.
We also chat about the Scotsman's recent testing at BFT (Body Fit Training) - and his surprise admission about throwing up during the testing. The Aussie can't believe it. He tells us an insinkerator story which is really just a complaint about kids leaving food scraps in the sink.
The question is: "why are we reviewing The Bodyguard?"
Well this is in the Aussie's top 10 and he tells us why. The Scotsman had not seen this and he tells us why.
The Aussie fan-boys over Whitney all the way through: " You get to this level of fame and some can handle it and some can't." he says and "at what age is too old to go up to celebs and want to talk?"

Leigh and Tim are aghast that the Scotsman tells them he does not like Stand by Me.
We reminisce about the excitement of choosing a DVD back in the day and Leigh gives us advice on how to stay the course.
The Aussie picks Leigh and Tim's brains on the " commercial and corporate" aspects of the business until the Scotsman steers us back on course to behind the scenes.
We talk about generational interview techniques and the difference between "content creation" and a "journalistic interview"

The Birdcage
Saturday Nov 01, 2025
Saturday Nov 01, 2025
This week we review the1996 American comedy film The Birdcage produced and directed by Mike Nichols.
Elaine May's screenplay adapted the 1978 French film La Cage aux Folles, itself an adaptation of a 1973 play.
It stars Robin Williams and Nathan Lane as a gay couple whose son (Dan Futterman) is set to marry the daughter (Calista Flockhart) of a conservative senator (Gene Hackman) and his wife (Dianne Wiest).
Hank Azaria and Christine Baranski appear in supporting roles.
The film marked the first screen collaboration of Nichols and May, who had been a comedy duo in the 1950s and 1960s.
We start with a discussion about drag shows, drag queens and gay bars making the Aussie - unsurprisingly - feel quite uncomfortable which leads to a little bit of niggle between the boys.
The Scotsman's memory falters more than usual and we have not so very PC chat which leads onto a discussion about why Issac Rankine (AFL footballer) was given such a harsh punishment for his homophobic slur in the 2025 season.
The boys did agree on one thing - they absolutely loved this movie and highly recommend it.
But be warned - this podcast comes with a language and trigger warning.

Unthinkable
Saturday Nov 01, 2025
Saturday Nov 01, 2025
This week we review the 2010 American thriller film Unthinkable directed by Gregor Jordan and starring Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Sheen and Carrie-Anne Moss.
The film focuses on the sanctioned torture of a man who has threatened to detonate three nuclear bombs, planted in three large U.S. cities.
This is all about that ultimate question: "how far would you go - how far can the government go - how far should they go - to retrieve infomration from a suspect in order to save hundreds of thousands of lives? "
If you think this sounds like your kind of movie then watch before we listen.
If you don't care then just tune in and listen to our discussion on the subject.
We kick off the podcast discussing the etiquette of condiments at a restaurant - the Scotsman asks the Aussie "when is it not ok to ask for tomato sauce?"
And you will hear some surprising admissions early on.
The Scotsman drops a no pun intended - bombshell revelation - that he is on a mission to read the Quran, the Torah and the Bible - and follows that up with a very ironic story.
The Scotsman thinks most people that have stayed in a hotel room have at some point picked up the Bible from the hotel room bedside drawer, read the fist few lines (at least) before returning it. Not the Aussie. We ar enot sure he even knows it's there and he stays in lots of hotels around the country.
We reveal some interesting marriage trivia regarding Michael Sheen towards the end of the podcast and ask: "How many times is it ok to get married before it becomes really embarrassing?"

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
Saturday Oct 25, 2025
Saturday Oct 25, 2025
This week we review the 2017 crime drama film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri written, directed, and produced by Martin McDonagh.
It stars Frances McDormand as Mildred Hayes, a Missouri woman who rents three roadside billboards to draw attention to her daughter's unsolved rape and murder.
Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Abbie Cornish, John Hawkes, and Peter Dinklage appear in supporting roles.
This turns out to be one of our best podcasts - we have a fantastic, intelligent discussion about the pros and cons of this movie - can you believe it!
And yes! We both highly recommend watching this before listening to the podcast so we don't spoil it for you.
The Aussie after a couple of 'off weeks' shines in this one and unbelievably his analysis turns the Scotsman around to his way of thinking. This is unheard of!
Trigger warning there is a bit of explicit language as we repeat some of the lines of the movie.
Before we get deep down into the nuances of the movie we have a discussion about vanity.

Interview with Mack Lindon
Saturday Oct 25, 2025
Saturday Oct 25, 2025
Mack Lindon is an Australian actor turned director who first captured audiences with his powerful debut film Rise (2014), inspired by his own wrongful imprisonment. Sentenced to six years in jail in 2008, Mack was released on appeal in 2010.
Now, Mack returns with Rise of the Underdog (2025) — hitting cinemas on November 6th — an inspiring new story that celebrates the resilience of independent filmmaking and the unbreakable underdog spirit.
You can stream Rise now on Moviesense.com.au
In this episode, we ask Mack about the charges, his conviction, time behind bars, eventual exoneration, and ongoing pursuit of justice.
He opens up about the real-life people behind the film’s characters, his continued efforts to hold the system accountable, and his fight for compensation. Mack also shares what it really takes to make a movie from scratch, offers advice for aspiring filmmakers, and reveals what it was like bringing Rise to life.
We hit a small technical snag mid-chat — but the Aussie steers us back on track — and then drops a question Mack says he’s never been asked before.

The Blind Side
Saturday Oct 18, 2025
Saturday Oct 18, 2025
This week we review the 2009 American biographical sports drama film The Blind Side written and directed by John Lee Hancock.
Based on the 2006 book of the same name by Michael Lewis, the film tells the story of Michael Oher, a football offensive lineman who overcame an impoverished upbringing to play in the National Football League (NFL) with the help of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy.
It stars Sandra Bullock as Leigh Anne, Tim McGraw as Sean, and Quinton Aaron as Oher.
The Aussie starts by telling us how much he loves this film until the Scotsman rips it apart. He hates it and is not afraid to say so. He is very rude starts snoring during the Aussie's intro and that sets the Aussie off.
"Every part of this movie grated on me" says the Scotsman
This is a fiery and passionate podcast and we have a lot of back and forth.
Have you seen it? Who do you agree with?

Flight
Saturday Oct 18, 2025
Saturday Oct 18, 2025
This week we review the 2012 American drama film Flight directed by Robert Zemeckis.
The film stars Denzel Washington as William "Whip" Whitaker Sr., an alcoholic airline pilot who miraculously crash-lands his plane after a mechanical failure, saving nearly everyone on board.
Although hailed a hero, an investigation soon begins to cast the captain in a different light.
We start the podcast discussing flying stories, Qantas status credits and a genuinely fascinating story from the Aussie, later in the show, about a time the pilot left the airplane to buy him a sandwich - you heard that right - the pilot left the airplane to specifically buy the Aussie a sandwich because he was " ravenous". He has the photo to prove it - it's one of the all time great stories. Thanks Delta Airlines.
We discuss the Aussies weight, his fitness journey and that leads us into a discussion about the recent The Biggest Loser documentary.
As for the movie? We love it.
We discuss the backstory - what happened to make Whip an alcoholic.
The Aussie poses what he calls the moral question of the film. " Should he have gone to jail. After all he did save 96 out of the 102 souls on board?"
Would it be a different answer if they had all died or saved?
We discuss economy v business class. We discuss the golden days of flying and the gravitas of being a pilot and a steward or stewardess.
The boys are on fire in this one - they are flying- riffing back and forth - great banter and a great podcast.

The Best of Tom Cruise
Saturday Oct 11, 2025
Saturday Oct 11, 2025
This week we discuss all Tom Cruise's movie's to date.
Before we get into Tom - we discuss the Aussie's shocking week. As the most competitive human in Australia this 40 year golf veteran was humbled this week when he was beaten in a golf comp by a novice of only 12 months. A very hard pill for him to swallow.
From Risky Business, Top Gun, Cocktail, Born on the 4th of July and Days of Thunder to Vanilla Sky, Jerry Maguire, Collateral and of course The Mission Impossible series it is no secret that we are huuuuuggggeee fans of Tom.
We discuss our interview with Kick Gurry - Kick starred with Tom in Edge of Tomorrow - you can listen to that here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0816p4cebznfCXJwjTxqYJ?si=3333d06493bc4c77

Terms of Endearment
Saturday Oct 11, 2025
Saturday Oct 11, 2025
This week we review the 1983 American family tragicomedy film Terms of Endearment directed, written, and produced by James L. Brooks.
It stars Debra Winger, Shirley MacLaine, Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, Jeff Daniels, and John Lithgow.
The film covers 30 years of the relationship between Aurora Greenway (MacLaine) and her daughter Emma Greenway-Horton (Winger).
The Scotsman lets the Aussie run with this podcast and it doesn't go as well. On his notes. Mumbling and fumbling around. Unprepared. It's a car crash episode - until the Scotsman steps back in.
This is the 'As Good As It Gets" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" Jack Nicholson we love - and his chemistry with Shirley Maclaine is worthy of the watch alone.
Watch before you listen so we don't ruin the ending for you.
Genuinely the Aussie's worst performance - and he admits it late in the podcast. He must lift for the next one.

The Untouchables
Saturday Oct 11, 2025
Saturday Oct 11, 2025
This week we are reviewing the 1987 American crime film, The Untouchables, directed by Brian De Palma and written by David Mamet.
It stars Kevin Costner, Charles Martin Smith, Andy García, Robert De Niro and Sean Connery.
Set in Chicago in 1930, the film follows Eliot Ness (Costner) as he forms the Untouchables team to bring Al Capone (De Niro) to justice during Prohibition. This is all about the lines.
And our favorites "lines man" is reveling. We go scene by scene.
The Scotsman is in his full Sean Connery mode - and the boys read some scenes together.
What a great movie from back in the day. Definitely worth a watch - but you don't need to watch before you listen.
We discuss who makes the best James Bond and the Aussie tells us that he was once told he looks like Daniel Craig.

Lost in Translation
Saturday Oct 04, 2025
Saturday Oct 04, 2025
This week we review the 2003 romantic comedy-drama film Lost in Translation written and directed by Sofia Coppola.
Bill Murray stars as Bob Harris, a fading American movie star who is having a midlife crisis when he travels to Tokyo to promote Suntory whisky.
There, he befriends another disillusioned American named Charlotte (Scarlett Johansson), a young woman and recent college graduate.
The film explores themes of alienation and disconnection against a backdrop of cultural displacement in Japan.
It defies mainstream narrative conventions and is atypical in its depiction of romance.
We reminisce about recent trips to Japan including the time the Aussie refused to get naked for the Onsen.
We absolutely loved this movie. The Scotsman rates this 5/5.
"Lost in Translation presents a mature exploration of connection and intimacy that prioritizes emotional depth over physical attraction. Rather than following conventional romantic formulas, the film builds its power through understated moments, shared silences, and the bond that develops between two people adrift in an unfamiliar culture." he says
We discuss mid-life crisis and loveless marriages. We discuss divorce and everything in between.
We reveal what Bill Murray said to Scarlett Johansen at the end of the movie in the trivia section.

Gran Torino
Saturday Oct 04, 2025
Saturday Oct 04, 2025
This week we review the 2008 American drama film Gran Torino directed, produced by and starring Clint Eastwood.
It features a significant Hmong American cast, a first for mainstream American films.
The score was composed by Kyle Eastwood and Michael Stevens, with Jamie Cullum and Clint Eastwood providing the lead track.
Set in Highland Park, Michigan, the story follows Walt Kowalski, a recently widowed Korean War veteran alienated from his family.
When Kowalski's neighbor Thao Vang Lor is pressured by his cousin into stealing Walt's prized Ford Torino for his initiation into a gang, Walt thwarts the theft and develops a relationship with the boy and his family.
It starts off in typical grumpy fashion with the Scotsman offloading some more of his 'issues'. Again the Aussie is under fire.
"This is the type of movie and the reason why we do the podcast" says the Aussie. The Scotsman can't believe it - this is NOT the reason we do this podcast. The Scotsman has his own thoughts on this one. Tune in to hear.
We discuss the differences between the location of this movie to our own location and how lucky we are - and - how sheltered we are!
The Scotsman tells us some stories from growing up in Glasgow and his time living in Cairns, QLD.
We try to get the Aussie to use his imagination again - with NO luck.
This podcast goes a bit off the rails as we start to imitate grumpy Clint movie lines - which takes to a point where we start quoting Chuck Norris memes.

A Beautiful Mind
Saturday Oct 04, 2025
Saturday Oct 04, 2025
This week we review the 2001 American biographical drama film A Beautiful Mind about the mathematician John Nash, a Nobel Laureate in Economics, played by Russell Crowe.
The film is directed by Ron Howard.
In addition to Crowe, the film's cast features Ed Harris, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Bettany, Adam Goldberg, Judd Hirsch, Josh Lucas, Anthony Rapp, and Christopher Plummer in supporting roles.
The story begins in Nash's days as a brilliant but asocial mathematics graduate student at Princeton University.
After Nash accepts secretive work in cryptography, he becomes liable to a larger conspiracy and begins to question his reality.
The Aussie finds it unable to answer a simple question at the start of the podcast and that descends into another heated debate about risk v reward. Spoiler alert on this one - if you haven not seen it. Watch then listen for this one.
We discuss Russell Crowes acting - the Scotsman is not happy with his performance in the first half and we work out why.
We have an interesting conversation about mental health and Electro Convulsive Therapy.
"Mental health is the most undiagnosed area of medicine" says the Aussie, finally bringing a moderate level of intelligence to the podcast this week (you can tell who writes these blurbs)

LA LA Land
Saturday Sep 27, 2025
Saturday Sep 27, 2025
This week we are reviewing the 2016 American musical romantic tragicomedy film LA LA Land written and directed by Damien Chazelle.
It stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a struggling jazz pianist and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love while pursuing their dreams in Los Angeles. The supporting cast includes John Legend, Rosemarie DeWitt, Finn Wittrock, and J. K. Simmons.
The film also received a record-tying fourteen nominations at the 89th Academy Awards, winning in six categories including Best Director and Best Actress (Stone).
We discuss the monumental stuff-up at the Oscars in 2017 when Warren Beatty read out LA LA Land as the best movie winner - when in fact it was won by Moonlight.
This podcast takes us on a personal journey - we discussed missed loves, opportunities, mistakes and that sliding door moment that could have changed everything.
Do you have your own sliding doors moment?
The Aussie gets personal and tells us about his missed opportunity. Did he compromise on a career he would have loved to have stayed in or was it - as Whitney Houston sung - One Moment In Time.
This podcast was filmed the week before we reviewed The Correspondent - in this podcast the Scotsman tells us he wanted to be an actor but he wasn't really sure why.
When we reviewed The Correspondent review back in April 2025 - both boys were in tears when the Scotsman revealed exactly why he wanted to be an actor. It is heartbreaking. If you haven't listened check it out here: (ADD LINK)
The Aussie puts the call out to our listeners - does anyone do what they want to do or has life got in the way. Do you follow your passion? Let us know.

Saturday Sep 27, 2025
This week we review the 2015 American biographical comedy-drama film Joy written and directed by David O. Russell and starring Jennifer Lawrence as Joy Mangano, a self-made millionaire who created her own business empire.
We start off by discussing the appropriate dress code for a funeral and somehow we end the conversation discussing masturbating over zoom. Don't ask just listen!
As for the film this is not one for the Scotsman - "a semi interesting semi biographical movie" he says.
The Aussie cant believe it.....He loves a good rags to riches story and really can't seem to see past that.
The Scotsman emplores him to dig deeper and to find more within himself - to bring something more that he can discuss about the substance, the essence of the film.
Not a great deal of background work from the Aussie in this one - he needs to lift and the Scotsman lets him know.
This movie is "inspired by the events of daring women". And for that we applaud it.
This one is for entrepreneurs, business owners, people starting out in life and thos with more to give - a rags to riches tale with a great cast.

Man on Fire
Saturday Sep 27, 2025
Saturday Sep 27, 2025
This week we review the 2004 action thriller film Man on Fire directed and produced by Tony Scott.
It is based on the 1980 novel of the same name by A. J. Quinnell.
The film stars Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning in lead roles, alongside Christopher Walken, Radha Mitchell, Giancarlo Giannini, Marc Anthony, Rachel Ticotin and Mickey Rourke in supporting roles.
This adaptation shifts the setting from Naples, Italy, to Mexico City, diverging from the earlier 1987 film version of Quinnell's novel, which was also produced by Milchan.
We start the podcast with a story from the Scotsman about how he is feeling. We move to a poker discussion and the etiquette of waiting at a friends house if you lose the game early in the evening.
Both boys thoroughly enjoyed this action film. Super cast. Fast paced for the most part.
There is a mid way pause while the boys argue about the epilogue at the end of the movie. \
We ask the question "how far would you go to save someone in your family" and then the ultimate question " could you take another person's life".

Saturday Sep 20, 2025
Saturday Sep 20, 2025
This week we review the 1996 American legal drama film A Time to Kill based on John Grisham's 1989 novel of the same name.
Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, Matthew McConaughey, and Kevin Spacey star, with Donald and Kiefer Sutherland appearing in supporting roles and Octavia Spencer in her film debut.
The film received mixed reviews but was a commercial success, making $152 million worldwide.
Before we discuss the movie - we discuss why we do what we do - some feedback from listeners and plans for season 3.
Then we move to the movie. Wow. This is full on. We discuss the deep racial divisions of the time. We debate the obvious moral question: Is there ever a time to kill?
The Aussie says "it's not clear to him" as to whether Samuel L Jackson's character was correct in his actions.
What do you think is there ever a time to kill?
We compare the cast of this Grisham movie to The Firm.
"This is Mississippi Burning on steroids" says the Scotsman.
Both boys loved the movie - great cast. Well made. Worth watching.

The film is based on the 1991 novel of the same name by author John Grisham.
The Firm follows Mitch McDeere, a young Harvard Law graduate who joins a prestigious Memphis law firm offering wealth and success.
He soon discovers the firm is tied to the Mafia and uses illegal methods to control its lawyers and clients.
Torn between loyalty, survival, and justice, Mitch risks everything to expose the corruption and protect his family.
The Aussie starts off by asking the Scotsman if his enthusiasm for the podcast is waning - which opens a can of worms the Aussie was not expecting.
We discuss a business trip the Scotsman took during the week down to Rosebud and the dog friendly Sorrento, which ends with a story that segways beautifully into the movie.
But just before we start to discuss the movie the Scotsman pays the Aussie a MASSSIVE compliment - a well deserved and genuine compliment.
As for the movie - well you know we love Tom Cruise - and this is a perfect Tom Cruise vehicle. A great cast, a great story - albeit a little unbelievable. Has it dated? Is it still worth watching - we think it is.

Ferris Buellers Day Off
Saturday Sep 20, 2025
Saturday Sep 20, 2025
This week we review the 1986 American teen comedy film Ferris Bueller's Day Off written, co-produced, and directed by John Hughes.
The film stars Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, and Alan Ruck, with supporting roles from Jennifer Grey, Jeffrey Jones, Cindy Pickett, Edie McClurg, Lyman Ward, and Charlie Sheen.
It tells the story of a charismatic high school slacker, Ferris, who skips school with his best friend Cameron and his girlfriend Sloane for a day in Chicago, regularly breaking the fourth wall to explain his techniques and inner thoughts.
We start this week with more Repo-man stories - the Aussie used to be a repo man and the 2 stories he tells this week are hard to believe - the Scotsman tries to hide his surprise - and does not do a very good job of it.
The Aussie first mentioned he was a Repo-man in our podcast The Best of Leonardo DiCaprio and he takes no prisoners.
He tells a great story - but it is going to be very devisive.
As we get into the podcast you won't believe it but the Aussie tears up after the intro. Is this related to his story? Nope - the nostalgia of the plot summary send him into a melt down.
We wonder if you haven't seen this movie as a 40+ year old would you enjoy it? Or does it need to be watched as a teenager? If you can answer this please let us know.
We run through a whole bunch of 80s references from movies, to music, to pop culture, to fashion TV shows and sporting wins - its a lot of fun - tune in.

The Roses
Saturday Sep 13, 2025
Saturday Sep 13, 2025
This week we review the recently released 2025 satirical black comedy film The Roses directed by Jay Roach.
It is loosely based on the 1981 novel The War of the Roses by Warren Adler, and a re-imagining of the 1989 film.
The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman as a successful couple whose seemingly pitch-perfect marriage begins falling apart. Andy Samberg, Allison Janney and Kate McKinnon are in some notable supporting roles.
This is a bittersweet week - while this movie just came out and we have uploaded it so you can decide if you want to go and watch it - it is also the same week that Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at a TPUSA public debate event on the campus of Utah Valley University.
While we are not a political podcast, we pay our respects and discuss freedom of speech for a few minutes at the start of the podcast.
The movie itself we had mixed opinions on. The Scotsman loves the interplay between the British sense of humour and the American - which is probably why he enjoyed it more.
We discuss relationships and the changing power dynamics in a marriage.
And we finish with a song.

King Richard
Saturday Sep 13, 2025
Saturday Sep 13, 2025
This week we review the 2021 American biographical sports drama film King Richard directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and written by Zach Baylin.
The film stars Will Smith as Richard Williams, the father and coach of famed tennis players Venus and Serena Williams (both of whom served as executive producers on the film), with Aunjanue Ellis, Saniyya Sidney, Demi Singleton, Tony Goldwyn, and Jon Bernthal in supporting roles.
It earned six nominations at the 94th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won Best Actor for Will Smith.
Will Smith's slap of Chris Rock at the Academy Awards overshadowed his Best Actor win. The incident cast a negative light on the film and became one of the most contentious pop culture moments of the year.
We discuss this and more.
The Aussie is in his element here. He was a semi-professional tennis player back in the day and he gives us some insights into the tennis world.
He tells us about his tennis days and reels off stats left right and straight down the line.
If you love tennis. If you love an underdog story. If you love a story with themes of family, ambition and identity - then this one is for you.

American History X
Saturday Sep 13, 2025
Saturday Sep 13, 2025
This week we review the 1998 American crime drama film American History X directed by Tony Kaye (in his feature directorial debut) and written by David McKenna.
The film stars Edward Norton and Edward Furlong as two brothers from Los Angeles who are involved in the white power skinhead and neo-Nazi movements.
The older brother (Norton) serves three years in prison for voluntary manslaughter, is rehabilitated during this time, and then tries to prevent his brother (Furlong) from being indoctrinated further.
Well, this is awkward - we kick off the podcast with a story from the Scotsman about cutting his finger and he refuses to move on until the Aussie brings a story of his own to the podcast- after what feels like several uncomfortable minutes of silence, he finally manages to tell us a story about life, love and loss.
This is an incredibly confronting movie - a hard to movie to sit through - but an important movie to watch.
Ed Norton and Ed Furlong so well cast. If this doesn't bring out the emotion in you - nothing will.
We debate strongly the motive behind the jail shower scene - let us know if you agree with the Aussie or the Scotsman. Maybe you have your own theory

Scent of a Woman
Saturday Sep 06, 2025
Saturday Sep 06, 2025
This week we are reviewing the 1992 American drama film Scent of a Woman starring Al Pacino in his Oscar winning role as a blind, depressed and irritable retired Army Lieutenant colonel. Chris O'Donnell was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role as his weekend companion / assistant.
We really enjoyed discussing this movie. While it has not aged well Al Pacino's Oscar winning performance and several incredibly powerful scenes make it worth including
on our list.
The Aussie thought Al Pacino 's performance was put on and that Chris O'Donnell is maybe "the most boring actor in Hollywood". But he does say "with respect first!"
The Scotsman tries to convince him otherwise and the Aussie sheds a tear late in the podcast when discussing a very emotive scene.
Let us know what you think and please join us for some "Whoo Ahh's "at the end.

Wall Street
Saturday Sep 06, 2025
Saturday Sep 06, 2025
This week we review the 1987 American crime drama film Wall Street, directed and co-written by Oliver Stone, which stars Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, Daryl Hannah, and Martin Sheen.
The film tells the story of Bud Fox (C. Sheen), a young stockbroker who becomes involved with Gordon Gekko (Douglas), a wealthy, unscrupulous corporate raider.
Stone made the film as a tribute to his father, Lou Stone, a stockbroker during the Great Depression.
This is one of the 6 films the Aussie has watched on repeat. Gordon Gekko is a character he relates to and - dare we say - wants to be.
We talk capitalism and socialism and when we try to discuss 'general stuff' it all gets too hard for the Aussie.
The Scotsman surprises the Aussie by admitting he 'had not seen it' and that takes him by surprise.
"How do you judge someones success?" "Does money motivate you?" "at what point will you be content in life". Just some of the hard hitting questions we discuss.
The compliment the Aussie receives at the start of the podcast is slowly ripped apart as the podcast goes on. He lays it on the line here - wears his heart on his sleeve and tells us how he really feels.
It is a raw and honest podcast and it gets a little heated towards the end.

The Town
Saturday Sep 06, 2025
Saturday Sep 06, 2025
The week we review the 2010 American action thriller film The Town a tense Boston crime thriller co-written and directed by Ben Affleck, who also stars alongside Rebecca Hall, Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, and Blake Lively and Pete Postlethwaite.
Set in the gritty streets of Charlestown — a neighborhood notorious for producing bank robbers — the film follows Doug MacRay (Affleck), a career criminal trying to escape his past after falling for Claire (Rebecca Hall), a bank manager taken hostage during one of his crew’s heists.
As FBI agent Adam Frawley (Jon Hamm) closes in, Doug faces a battle between loyalty to his crew — especially his volatile best friend Jem (Jeremy Renner) — and his dream of a new life.
Well this gets off to a interesting start when the Aussie talks us through a recent jetski incident involving his children in Thailand.
And the Aussie was there and witnessed the whole thing! Wait till you hear what the Aussie did. Backing up his mate - just like the boys in The Town.
Tune in to find out this escalates very quickly and listen at the end of the podcast as the Scotsman starts to feel very self-conscious about his actions on the beach.
As for the movie - well this is a cracker. Not quite as good as Heat but a similar theme.
We recreate the famous Pete Postlethwaite scene in the florist shop and have a good laugh along the way.
We debate the scene where the policeman turns the other way when faced with 4 automatic gun wielding bank robbers - what would you do?
The Aussie says he would run straight towards the fire - one jetski incident and he thinks he's John Wick!

Once Were Warriors
Saturday Aug 30, 2025
Saturday Aug 30, 2025
This week we review the 1994 New Zealand tragic drama film Once Were Warriors based in New Zealand.
The film tells the story of the Heke family, an urban Māori whānau living in South Auckland, and their problems with poverty, alcoholism, and domestic violence, mostly brought on by the patriarch, Jake.
It explores the detrimental effects of the colonisation of New Zealand suffered by Māori, and the survival of Māori culture against all odds.
This is a viscerally powerful movie.
A movie that you will never forget.
A movie that deserved every award it received.
A movie that should come with a warning.
A movie that you should watch before you listen to this podcast.
Unfortunately, this type of violence is still prevalent in many communities around the world. It is deplorable and "it will shock you to your core" as the Aussie says.
Trigger warning alert.
This podcast episode discusses domestic violence, which may be triggering for some listeners. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please seek help.
You can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline 1800 737 732 in Australia

Basic Instinct
Saturday Aug 30, 2025
Saturday Aug 30, 2025
This week we review the 1992 erotic thriller film Basic Instinct directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Joe Eszterhas.
Starring Michael Douglas, Sharon Stone, George Dzundza, Jeanne Tripplehorn, and Wayne Knight, the film follows the detective Nick Curran (Douglas) as he investigates the murder of a wealthy rock star in San Francisco.
He begins an intense relationship with Catherine Tramell (Stone), an enigmatic writer and the prime suspect.
Put the children to bed and plug in the headphones this is as raunchy as it gets.
We begin by discussing this current woke world, what words we can and cannot use and we ask why is it considered 'inappropriate' to imitate foreign accents? Considering we imitate each other all the time the Aussie and the Scotsman are in poll position to debate this one.
We discuss the chemistry between the characters. This is as close to porn as you can get - and it was 30 years ago.
We think this is a movie that still stands the test of time. An enjoyable movie and an even better podcast.
We discuss the controversy behind the infamous leg crossing scene and we deep dive into the plot.
We end the podcast talking about beauty - what is it and why do we expect more from women compared to men.
We might get ourselves into trouble in this one. But hey - what's new.
You don't have to have watched this movie to listen in.

The Best of Leonardo DiCaprio
Saturday Aug 30, 2025
Saturday Aug 30, 2025
This week we discuss all Leonardo DiCaprio movie's to date.
The Aussie starts off by telling us an incredible NEW story about his time working as a repo-man - yes you heard it right , the Aussie was a repo-man for a year, and boy does he have some stories. Rohan the Repo Man.
We run through Lio's volume of work, his biography, our favourite lines and we finish with our top 10 countdown.
Recorded over zoom the sound quality is not quite as it should be. Despite this - and our apologies - we bring you a very entertaining podcast this week.
From Basketball Diaries to The Beach and Catch me if you Can to Wolf of Wall Street - Leonardo has an incredible body of work.
Tune in and see if you agree with our top 10 countdown.

Donnie Darko
Saturday Aug 23, 2025
Saturday Aug 23, 2025
This week we review the 2001 American science fiction psychological thriller film Donnie Darko written and directed by Richard Kelly in his directorial debut.
It stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Jena Malone, Drew Barrymore, Mary McDonnell, Katharine Ross, Patrick Swayze, and Noah Wyle, with Seth Rogen in his film debut in a minor role.
Set in October 1988, the film follows Donnie Darko (Gyllenhaal), a troubled teenager who inadvertently escapes a bizarre accident by sleepwalking. He has visions of Frank, a mysterious figure in a rabbit costume who informs him that the world will end in 28 days.
The podcast starts with a story about our recent stint on live radio and a couple of pet peeves and it rockets from there.
A funny start with the banter between the boys. "Unbearable!!" growls the Scotsman as they end the intro. But they warm up for the movie discussion.
"It's a big film in a lot of ways" says the Scotsman "and you get more from it from each viewing".
It's a sad coming of age film, exploring mental health and it has garnered a cult following. You will either love it or hate it. Either way you don't need to watch the movie to enjoy the podcast.
The Aussie loved the chemistry between the brother and sister not realising that the actors Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal are, infact, real life brother and sister.

All The Money in the World
Saturday Aug 23, 2025
Saturday Aug 23, 2025
This week we review the 2017 biographical crime thriller film directed by Ridley Scott.
Based on John Pearson's 1995 book Painfully Rich: The Outrageous Fortunes and Misfortunes of the Heirs of J. Paul Getty, it depicts the events surrounding the 1973 kidnapping of John Paul Getty III and the refusal of his grandfather, the multi-billionaire oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, to cooperate with the kidnappers' extortion demands.
The film stars Michelle Williams as Gail Harris Getty, John Paul Getty III's mother, Christopher Plummer as Getty, and Mark Wahlberg as Fletcher Chace, an adviser of the Getty family.
We kick off with the Aussie telling us a recent dentist story and the Scotsman asks queries the etiquette on bill splitting.
The boys are on total opposite sides of the fence when it comes to this film. An "absolute waste of time" says the Scotsman.
We discuss the Kevin Spacey controversy. Kevin played the original role and 2 months before world wide release he was recast by Christopher Plummer due to the sexual misconduct allegations.
"Why did Jean Paul Getty pull the painting off the wall at the end"- we debate the reason for this - was it to set off the alarm or not?
The Scotsman take an extreme dislike to Mark Wahlberg as the 'fixer' in this and feels he is totally miscast. The Aussie tells him to "stop getting into the minutia and take it for what it is". And it gets a little heated

Papillion
Saturday Aug 23, 2025
Saturday Aug 23, 2025
This week we review the 1973 historical adventure drama prison film Papillion directed by Franklin J. Schaffner.
The screenplay was based on the 1969 autobiography by the French convict Henri Charrière.
The film stars Steve McQueen as Charrière ("Papillon") and Dustin Hoffman as Louis Dega.
Henri Charrière is a safecracker nicknamed "Papillon" because of the butterfly tattoo on his chest.
In France, he is wrongly convicted of murdering a pimp in 1933 and is sentenced to life imprisonment in French Guiana.
En route, he meets a fellow convict, Louis Dega, an infamous forger and embezzler. Papillon offers to protect Dega if he will fund the former's escape once they reach Guiana.
Enduring the horrors of life in a jungle labour camp, the two become friends.
What a screen combination this is with McQueen and Hoffman - their presence and magatism is apparent for all to see.
The Aussie asks: "Who would you like to be?"
Hoffman's character was content and resigned to staying on the island.....McQueen was desperate to leave.
We enjoyed watching this old classic.
Some interesting facts about Steve McQueen in the trivia section - worth hanging around for.

The Best of Robin Williams
Saturday Aug 09, 2025
Saturday Aug 09, 2025
This week we discuss the best of Robin Williams.
Robin McLaurin Williams (July 21, 1951 – August 11, 2014) was an American actor and comedian known for his improvisational skills and the wide variety of characters he created spontaneously and portrayed in drama and comedy films.
Williams is regarded as one of the greatest comedians of all time.
He received numerous accolades including an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards, five Grammy Awards, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Williams was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2005.
Before we deep dive into Robin's career we discuss several things:
What life would be like as an empty nester.
What lurks beneath your teenage children's beds.
Why leaving coins in your car can lead to bad jokes.
And why walking into someone's house without knocking is a big no no.
Edit - we mentioned the wrong web address for the blog the Scotsman used to write. It is www.adadslife.com.au
Mid way through the discussion around Patch Adams the Scotsman tells us a story about seeing someone hit by a tram triggering some powerful memories
We work our way through William's biography starting with his TV on Mork and Mindy to his film roles in The World According to Garp, Moscow on the Hudson, Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs Doubtfire, Cadillac Man, The Birdcage, Insomnia, One Hour Photo, Night at the Museum, Dead Poets Society and Good Will Hunting

Easy Rider
Saturday Aug 09, 2025
Saturday Aug 09, 2025
This week we review the 1969 American road drama film Easy Rider written by Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, and Terry Southern, produced by Fonda, and directed by Hopper.
Fonda and Hopper play two bikers who travel through the American Southwest and South, carrying the proceeds from a cocaine deal with a young Jack Nicholson in tow.
The success of Easy Rider helped spark the New Hollywood era of filmmaking during the early 1970s.
With an iconic soundtrack and the French New Wave influence this is an iconic movie and another one the Aussie had not seen.
We discuss some personal stories about growing up in a culture where drugs were frowned upon. We talk about the Aussies lack of confidence in the adrenalin arena when he says "life equals effort".
We tackle the themes of intolerance and we go off track quite a bit talking about our history. The Scotsman tells us about the time he took acid.....allegedly. The Aussie tells us about this time as a repo man.
We talk Harleys, peace, love and freedom.
Enjoy this one man....

Cape Fear - 1991
Saturday Aug 02, 2025
Saturday Aug 02, 2025
This week we review the 1991 American psychological thriller film Cape Fear directed by Martin Scorsese which is a remake of the 1962 film.
This film is awful!
It stars Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange.
The film tells the story of a convicted violent rapist who, by using his newfound knowledge of the law and its numerous loopholes, seeks vengeance against a former public defender whom he blames for his 14-year imprisonment due to purposefully faulty defense tactics used during his trial.
This podcast does not get off to a great start. The Scotsman just wants to have a chat and the Aussie can't contribute in any way.
This is a fiery episode not worthy of our review - and both the boys not happy with each other.
You will hear the first formal apology from The Aussie at the start of the show and another at the end.
We do agree on one thing though.....Juliette Lewis was absolutely terrible and completely miscast in this movie. We tear a few scenes apart.
How far would you go to protect your family. We discuss...robustly.
No need to watch this - but you have to listen. It is spicy!

The Sound of Music with Elise Esther Hearst
Saturday Aug 02, 2025
Saturday Aug 02, 2025
This week we review the 1965 American musical drama film The Sound of Music produced and directed by Robert Wise and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
The film is an adaptation of the 1959 stage musical composed by Richard Rodgers, with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.
It is based on the 1949 memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp and is set in Salzburg, Austria.
It is a fictional retelling of her experiences as governess to seven children, her eventual marriage with their father Captain Georg von Trapp, and their escape during the Anschluss in 1938.
The Hills are Alive as we welcome back author and playwright Elise Esther Hearst to the studio.
This is considered by many as one of the best films of all time.
What will the boys think of this one - we know the Aussie is going to love it, but what about the grumpy Scot? We know musicals, love stories and romance are not really his thing.
There is a lot of gushing over a young Christopher Plummer - smoking and striking are words unfamiliar to the Aussie but he does agree he is a handsome leading man.
We have a healthy debate about the Captains fiancé was she a goody or a baddy? What do you think?
Things start to get out of hand when the Scotsman tries to conduct a 3-way rendition of Do-Ray-Mi - no surprises when you hear that one of the 3 stuff's it up immediately.
Sit back and enjoy this fun conversation with the wonderful Elise Esther Hearst.

Elise trained at the Royal Court Theatre in London and has been a playwright-in-residence at Melbourne Theatre Company and Griffin Theatre.

Elise is currently working on her second novel, and a screen adaptation of her novel One Day We’re All Going to Die.
We start the podcast badly - well the Scotsman does - he researches the wrong Elise Hearst and has to back track much to the Aussie's amusement - but then we are off and running.
A truly interesting insight into the life of a writer, from concept to completion to production and publishing . Elise brings a warmth and intelligence to the podcast that has been lacking for a while.

Taxi Driver

Saturday Jul 26, 2025
This week we review the 1976 American neo-noir psychological drama film Taxi Driver directed by Martin Scorsese.
Set in a morally decaying New York City following the Vietnam War, it stars Robert De Niro as veteran Marine and taxi driver Travis Bickle, whose mental state deteriorates as he works nights in the city.
The film also features Jodie Foster, Cybill Shepherd, Harvey Keitel, Peter Boyle, Leonard Harris and Albert Brooks (in his first feature film role).
We debate which movie is better and why - Taxi Driver or LA LA Land.....and who is the better actor. De Niro or Gosling.
Both boys talk about their fascination of people watching and walking the streets late at night.\
This is a must watch classic - spoiler alert - we spoil this movie for you right from the get go.

Seven
Saturday Jul 26, 2025
Saturday Jul 26, 2025
This week we review the 1995 American crime thriller film Seven.
It stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, with Gwyneth Paltrow, and John C. McGinley in supporting roles.
Set in an unnamed, crime-ridden city, Seven's narrative follows disenchanted, nearly retired detective William Somerset (Freeman) and his newly transferred partner David Mills (Pitt) as they try to stop a serial killer from committing a series of murders based on the seven deadly sins.
Spoiler alerts galore here as we dissect - no pun intended - this movie. Despite being 30 years old it has not dated. We thoroughly recommend watching or re-watching before you listed.
It's a dark and bleak film but incredibly well acted with a great twist. If you have seen it you know what we mean.
If you had to chop off half a kilo from your body which part would you choose..... the Scotsman knows exactly which part he would take and it doesn't take much imagination the cheeky bugger!
The Aussie runs through a lot of the great lines. Both boys loved this movie but talk themselves into a depression revisiting it.

The Color of Money

Saturday Jul 26, 2025
This week we review the 1986 American sports drama film The Color of Money directed by Martin Scorsese. It is the sequel to the 1961 film The Hustler.
The film stars Paul Newman reprising his role as "Fast Eddie" Felson, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor.
The film also stars Tom Cruise playing a pool hustler, and features Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as the girlfriend of Cruise's character. The plot follows the trio as they hustle pool halls and make their way to a nine-ball tournament in Atlantic City. The film received a generally positive critical response on its release, although some critics thought that the film was an inferior followup to The Hustler.
The Scotsman kicks off with the Snooker Loopy song but gets a little disrespectful during his opening monologue.
The Aussie loves this move - or does he? As we discuss it more we discover that he may not love it as much as he thinks he does. And he is challenged on it.
We discuss snooker and pool - and when Jeremy gets a mention again the Aussie gets very jealous.

Greenland
Saturday Jul 19, 2025
Saturday Jul 19, 2025
This week we review the 2020 American apocalyptic survival disaster thriller film Greenland directed by Ric Roman Waugh.
Starring Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin the film follows the family as they fight for survival before a planet destroying comet hits earth.
Get the popcorn ready and buckle up - this is a better than average disaster movie but the Aussie manages to ruin it with his ridiculoulsly in depth analaysis of a film that doesnt need it.
The Aussie's interruptions and dull explanations set the Scotsman off - and he gets progressively more annoyed until he turns around and says "you are actually ruining this movie for me".
Some interesting ethical and moral questions come up and the Aussie's family might be a little surprised with his answers.
We run through a list of all time world ending diaster movies - do you have a favourite?
This is worth watching before you listen as there are some nice twists that we don't want to ruin for you. But not the end of the world - no pun intended - if you don't.
We look forward to Greenland 2.

Strangers on a Train with The Doc
Saturday Jul 19, 2025
Saturday Jul 19, 2025
This week we review the 1951 American psychological thriller film noir Strangers on a Train produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on the 1950 novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith.
It was shot in late 1950, and released by Warner Bros. on June 30, 1951, starring Farley Granger, Ruth Roman and Robert Walker.
The story concerns two strangers who meet on a train, one of whom is a psychopath who suggests that they "exchange" murders so that neither will be caught.
The film initially received mixed reviews, but has since been regarded much more favorably.
In 2021, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
We welcome back The Doc - Doctor Andrew - as we were in some desperate need of intelligent debate and discussion.
We kick off with pet peeves "is it ok to park in front of a persons driveway?" and we ask "is it ok to walk straight into someones house uninvited regardless of how well you know them" ;
The Aussie finally appreciates why this masterpiece set the scene for later thrillers and the Scotsman can't help binging up our previous review of Duel - if you haven't listened the podcast that nearly ended Aussie and the Scotsman - check that one out!

This week we review the 2000 Australian crime drama film Chopper starring Eric Bana as Mark 'Chopper' Read.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie - it's an all Aussie podcast as the boys recreate the "cash - no cash here" scene and discuss this Australian classic in detail.
Nominated for a well deserved 9 AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts) awards this is a fantastic movie showcasing the life of Chopper.

Superman 2025 with Charlie
Saturday Jul 12, 2025
Saturday Jul 12, 2025
This week we review the recently released (2 days ago) 2025 American superhero film Superman based on the eponymous character from DC Comics.
Written and directed by James Gunn, it is the first film in the DC Universe produced by DC Studios and the second reboot of the Superman film series.
David Corenswet stars as Clark Kent / Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced.
*SPOILER ALERT* *SPOILER ALERT*
In the film, Superman must prove to the world that he is their protector after billionaire Lex Luthor conducts a plan to turn public opinion against him.
We welcome Charlie to the studio - the Aussie's son - a big DC and Marvel fan and he loves Superman.
This is a re-imagining of the original Superman movie and character - true to the comic book.
For old school movie watchers like the Aussie and the Scotsman they prefer the Christopher Reeve Superman - BUT it is a re-imagining, a re-awakening of a franchise that lost it's way in the past couple of movies.
James Gunn has stayed true to the comic book and that's why 15 year old Charlie loves this movie. And why the old fossils don't. Charlie schools us. He educates us. He challenges us.
This is a great podcast. One of our longest - because Charlie brings a wealth of knowledge - with clear and concise arguments and information.
The Aussie has a dirty day in the back half of the podcast when he starts to get a bit tired - and makes all manner of mistakes. All taken in good jest and very funny.
This is by far a perfect movie regardless of which Superman you like - and we debate specific scenes and plot points - and SPOILER ALERT again, we are about to ruin some scenes for you.
the Russian Roulette scene - a huge contrast in terms of tone to the rest of the movie. Did it fit? Was it meant to have that impact?
The Scotsman has a real problem with the dog and Superman's parents
We question why Lex Luthor cried at the end.
We all wished we saw more of Superman as the bumbling Clark Kent and the Perry White character was underused as the Editor of the Daily Planet
And finally......what about the second half of Superman's message from his parents. Let's discuss that!!!!
Did you know the original creators sold the rights to Superman to DC Comics for $132 US - maybe the most lopsided deal in history - that and more trivia in one of our favourite reviews.
(EDIT - Millie Alcock is in Australia TV show Upright not Upside Down as the Scotsman says during the podcast)

F1 Movie
Saturday Jul 12, 2025
Saturday Jul 12, 2025
F1 (2025)
This week we review the recently released F1 movie - which is a 2025 American sports drama film, starring Brad Pitt as a racing driver who returns to Formula One (F1) after a 30-year absence to save his former teammate’s underdog team, APXGP, from collapse.
Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, and Javier Bardem also star.
The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.
This podcast comes with spoiler alerts. And this is a must watch at the movies. If possible at an IMAX theatre.
It’s pure popcorn and an unadulterated flashy American take on F1. But it is great. We were absorbed into this movie - we were in the car with the drivers, our bodies moving at every turn, gasping and grabbing our heads at various points - this was very close to being a fully immersive experience. The technology was developed to make it so. You won't experience this at home - go and watch the movie at the cinema you won't regret it.
There is a bit of cheese as you would expect and the love story is forced. But who cares.
Sit back and enjoy the ride!
Shout out To Mercadante Woodfired Pizzeria at 123 Lygon Street, Carlton - ask for Carlos who will give you a free chocolate pizza and 2 surprises if you mention Aussie and the Scotsman podcast.

Hunger
Saturday Jul 12, 2025
Saturday Jul 12, 2025
This week we discuss the 2008 historical film drama Hunger directed by Steve McQueen, starring Michael Fassbender, Liam Cunningham, and Liam McMahon.
The film stars Fassbender as Bobby Sands, the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) member who led the second IRA hunger strike and participated in the no wash protest in which Irish republican prisoners tried to regain political status after it had been revoked by the British government in 1976.
It outlines events in the Maze Prison in the period leading up to the hunger strike and its aftermath.
The boys get serious here. The Aussie loves his biographies. But not this one. "slow and hard to understand" he says
The Scotsman calls the The Aussie ignorant!
What about that incredible 18 minute one take scene between Fassbender and Cunningham.
"I'm not here to do work, I'm here to be entertained" says the Aussie - forgetting he is a podcast movie reviewer!
The Aussie takes a hard stand but he slips up when he thinks the director Steve McQueen was in The Great Escape!
The Scotsman: "Steve McQueen also directed 12 Years a Slave"
The Aussie replies: "There's a bigger film that that mate ..... The Great Escape when he rode the motorbike over the fence".....
long long long pause while the Aussie digs a deeper hole for himself.
The Scotsman: "are you talking about Steve McQueen the....dead actor? ".
In terms of movie making this movie is unparalleled, unflinching - it is a masterclass in acting and a very important story.
A must watch from the Scotsman and a must miss by the Aussie.
You decide.

The Big Short
Saturday Jun 28, 2025
Saturday Jun 28, 2025
This week we review the 2015 American biographical crime comedy-drama film The Big Short.
This is one of our earlier podcasts so it's short and sweet.
It documents how the 2007–2008 global financial crisis was triggered by the United States housing bubble.
The film stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt and some surprise cameos who break the fourth wall to explain concepts such as subprime mortgages and collateralized debt obligations.
Several of the film's characters directly address the audience, most frequently Gosling's, who serves as the narrator.
This is a complicated and devastating story, well told and clearly explained.
Don't be put off because it's about high finance. Having lived through it both they boys relate well to this one and we talk it through.
Definitely worth a watch if you were around during that time.

James Bond theme quiz - with The Doc
Saturday Jun 28, 2025
Saturday Jun 28, 2025
This week is Bond week.
The Doc is back and we are doing a quiz with him - can you pick the Bond Theme tunes?
It starts with a laugh as the Aussie inadvertently makes a lewd comment - the Scot and the Doc giggle like children. Not very Bond-esque -but a lot of fun.
Play along. Lots of trivia about each of the Bond movies and the theme tune it comes from.
It might start a bit slow but the boys - well the Doc - comes home flying.

The Intouchables with the Doc
Saturday Jun 28, 2025
Saturday Jun 28, 2025
This week we review the 2011 French buddy comedy-drama film The Intouchables, also known as Untouchable in the UK, Ireland, and Scandinavia written and directed by Éric Toledano and Olivier Nakache.
It stars François Cluzet and Omar Sy.
The plot of the film is inspired by the true story of Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and his French-Algerian carer Abdel Sellou.
This is a fantastic film brought to our podcast studio by fan favourite, The Doc.
A must watch movie - you don't need to have watched this movie - as it is based on a true story to listen.
This is a bittersweet story between a wealthy paraplegic and his carer.
Massive call early on by the Scotsman who says: "this is one of the best movies he has seen in a long time.
The chemistry between the main actors is infectious.
The Doc says "it's a feel good pick me up film". And he is right - this is a must watch - have we said that?
The Doc talks about joy in the face of adversity as we get a bit deep and heavy for a while.
The Aussie remains all salesy and commercial when it comes to discussing friendships, rambling on about values and cost benefit analyses of what a friend brings to a relationship.
We finish with a debate on who is the best actor between the two main characters.

In the Name of the Father
Saturday Jun 21, 2025
Saturday Jun 21, 2025
This week we discuss the 1993 biographical crime drama film In The Name of the Father starring Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis, Pete Postlethwaite, Emma Thompson, Tom Wilkson and others.
This is a gripping telling of the true story of the Guildford Four, four people falsely convicted of the 1974 Guildford pub bombings that killed 4 off duty British soldiers and civilians.
The boys are audibly shaken and disturbed by the miscarriage of justice and the corruption that saw those innocent men lose many years of their lives.
You don't have to be familiar with the troubles in Northern Ireland to enjoy this movie. Anything with Daniel Day Lewis and Pete Postlethwaite is definitely worth a watch.
We love an injustice movie - particularly the Aussie. Let us know what you think.

Steve Jobs
Saturday Jun 21, 2025
Saturday Jun 21, 2025
This week we review the 2015 biographical drama film Steve Jobs directed by Danny Boyle and written by Aaron Sorkin.
The film covers fourteen years in the life of Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs, specifically ahead of three press conferences he gave during that time: the formal unveiling of the Macintosh 128K on January 24, 1984; the unveiling of the NeXT Computer on October 12, 1988; and the unveiling of the iMac G3 on May 6, 1998.
Jobs is portrayed by Michael Fassbender, with Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, and Jeff Daniels as John Sculley in supporting roles.
The Scotsman kicks off with a pertinent story about his google maps glitching and being lost - what would you do if your navigation technology stopped working? We try and discuss.
The Scotsman is indifferent to this movie - the Aussie tells us it's whether the subject matter floats your boat or not - and "as far as he is concerned"it could have gone on and on.
We discuss whether being a 'genius ' or a 'world changer' gives you licence to treat people around you badly. Is it acceptable and do you make allowances for world changers?
We compare Jobs to Zuckerberg to Gates to Bezos to Musk - are they all the same. How would you rank their personality on an 'unpleasant person' scale?

Best of Tom Hanks
Saturday Jun 21, 2025
Saturday Jun 21, 2025
It's a "Best of" week - this week The Best of Tom Hanks.
The Scotsman kicks off by telling us about his recent trip to Scotland and JApan for his dad's 80th birthday - but just as he gets going the Aussie has a coughing fit and for the first time since the podcast started we have to stop the broadcase for a brief intermission.
Hilarious chaos ensues as the Aussie fails to adhere to the microphone etiquette required for a sneezer and sniffer. It's the worst he has ever been.
The Scotsman continues with his story and has the Aussie is in tears as he tells him about a surprise he arranged for his dad's birthday.
And then we start the Best of Tom Hanks with some Tom Hanks trivia, following which we reel off his impressive CV from 1980 to 2024.
Fun facts and little titbits of trivia intersperse an energetic podcast.
We end the show with what we think are Tom's most famous lines, what Tom says are his most famous lines and our countdown of the top 10 best Tom Hanks movies of all time.
The Aussie says "Hanks should have retired a long time ago"... The Scotsman is aghast!!

Chariots of Fire with Saul
Saturday Jun 14, 2025
Saturday Jun 14, 2025
This week review the 1981 historical sports drama film Chariots of Fire directed by Hugh Hudson.
It is based on the true story of two British athletes in the 1924 Olympics: Eric Liddell, a devout Scottish Christian who runs for the glory of God, and Harold Abrahams, an English Jew who runs to overcome prejudice.
Ben Cross and Ian Charleson star as Abrahams and Liddell.Chariots of Fire was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won four, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Score for Vangelis's electronic theme tune.
At the 35th British Academy Film Awards, the film was nominated in 11 categories and won in three, including Best Film.
It is ranked 19th in the British Film Institute's list of Top 100 British films but the Scotsman thinks it's rubbish!!!!
Who does he think he is....he's as arrogant as Abrahams in this one.
We are delighted to welcome Saul back to the podcast and what a revelation he turns out to be.
Saul is a sports purist and he articulates himself much better than the Aussie and the Scotsman.
We discuss the current Olympics and what should and should not be there.
The Aussie gets deeply personal about his competitiveness and how it can damage your personality. He gives us a glimpse into the pysche of a professional sportsperson and what winning means.
The Aussie asks the question: "If the game is on the line are you the person that wants to take the last kick or the the last shot, are you the one that can handle the pressure, the clutch player?"

12 Angry Men
Saturday Jun 14, 2025
Saturday Jun 14, 2025
This week we discuss the 1957 American legal drama film 12 Angry men directed by Sidney Lumet and starring Henry Fonda, Lee J Cobb, Ed Begley, E G Marshall and Jack Warden.
The film tells the story of a jury of 12 men as they deliberate the conviction or acquittal of a teenager charged with murder on the basis of reasonable doubt; disagreement and conflict among the jurors forces them to question their morals and values.
The Aussie had not seen this one and.......he loved it. This is another of our very early podcast so we get straight into.
We dissect this one forensically just like the jurors.
So clever. One room. Captivating. One against 12.
Recommend this highly.

The Elephant Man
Saturday Jun 14, 2025
Saturday Jun 14, 2025
This week we review the 1980 biographical drama film The Elephant Man loosely based on the life of Joseph Merrick (referred to as "John" in the film), a severely deformed man who lived in London in the late 19th century.
The film was directed by David Lynch.
It stars Sir John Hurt, Anthony Hopkins, Anne Bancroft, Sir John Gielgud, Wendy Hiller, Michael Elphick, Hannah Gordon, and Freddie Jones.
Make no mistake - the Aussie absolutely hated this. Not one positive thing to say. This podcast descents into absolute chaos. He gives it his lowest score to date and he did not realise it was a true story.
The Scotsman is mortified. "how can a movie reviewer just say... " I don't like it?"
This one gets VERY fiery.
The Aussie tries to move to trivia very quickly but the Aussie holds off and the arguments continue.
Did you like it?

Brewster's Millions
Saturday Jun 07, 2025
Saturday Jun 07, 2025
This week we discuss the 1985 American comedy Brewster's Millions directed by Walter Hill and starring Richard Pryor and John Candy.
What a concept this is....what would you do? Spend the $30m in 30 days for a chance to win $300m or take $1m up front (1985 values).
Did you know this is based on a 1902 novel? The story is over 120 years old. No, neither did we. It has been re-made 7 times and this is the latest.
The boys discuss what they would do with a $100m lottery win. The answers are very different from both.
This is good fun and a nostalgic look back at a favourite.
We think they should remake it again. Imagine what you could do.

School of Rock
Saturday Jun 07, 2025
Saturday Jun 07, 2025
This week we review the 2003 comedy film School of Rock directed by Richard Linklater.
The film stars Jack Black, Joan Cusack, Mike White, and Sarah Silverman.
Black plays struggling rock guitarist Dewey Finn, who is fired from his band and subsequently poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school.
After witnessing the musical talent of the students, Dewey forms a band of fourth-graders to attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands and use his winnings to pay his rent.
Did this film work because of Jack Black - or was it a ensemble performance?
Could any other actor have played this role? We discuss.
This was one of our early podcasts when we were just starting out - you can tell.
A lot shorter than normal, we don't give it a rating and the Aussie nearly forgets about the trivia segment!
Really fun family movie though and we thoroughly enjoyed watching it. We definately recommend you should watch this one with the family.

Moonlight
Saturday Jun 07, 2025
Saturday Jun 07, 2025
This week we review the 2016 American coming-of-age drama film Moonlight written and directed by Barry Jenkins, based on Tarell Alvin McCraney's unpublished semi-autobiographical play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue.
It stars Trevante Rhodes, André Holland, Janelle Monáe, Ashton Sanders, Jharrel Jerome, Naomie Harris, and Mahershala Ali and it won the Acaademy Award for best Picture.
For once we agree. The Aussie and the Scotsman are very surprised at this choice of winner.
This movie DID NOT deserve to win best oscar NOR did Mahershala Ali deserve to win best supporting actor..........in our professional opinion of course.
Interesting movie but nothing special for us reviewing here in Australia. Maybe in the States where this is more prevelant in specific communities it resonates better hence the Oscar..
If agreeing wasn't enough you should tune in to hear the Scotsman apologise to the Aussie regarding a movie choice later in the podcast.
Our lowest ratings yet. No need to watch before listening.

Joker - with Ben King on-set photographer
Saturday May 31, 2025
Saturday May 31, 2025
This week we review the 2019 American psychological thriller film Joker directed by Todd Phillips.
It stars Joaquin Phoenix and provides an alternative origin story for the Joker.
The film follows Arthur Fleck, a failed clown and aspiring stand-up comedian whose descent into mental illness and nihilism inspires a violent countercultural revolution against the wealthy in a decaying Gotham City. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Frances Conroy appear in supporting roles.
We welcome back Ben King to the studio. Ben is an on-set photographer as well as taking key art shots for movies and TV. Check out our interview with him in an earlier episode.
Ben brings the Joker to us this week with a technically interesting perspective of the film through the lens of someone in the industry.
Ben kicks off with colourful descriptions of the movie that has the Aussie all aflutter. Words with more than one syllable that both boys struggle to keep up with.
This is a brilliant but dark movie as you would expect. Delving into mental health and abuse. It is one of Todd Phillips best movies but we ask how did he manage to get it so wrong for the sequel.

The Hangover
Saturday May 31, 2025
Saturday May 31, 2025
This week we discuss the 2009 American comedy film The Hangover directed by Todd Phillips and starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Heather Graham, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong and Jeffrey Tambor.
It tells the story of Phil Wenneck (Cooper), Stu Price (Helms), Alan Garner (Galifianakis), and Doug Billings (Bartha), who travel to Las Vegas for a bachelor party to celebrate Doug's impending marriage.
However, Phil, Stu, and Alan wake up with Doug missing and no memory of the previous night's events, and must find the groom before the wedding can take place.
Why does this film resonate so much with the boys?
We discuss which character we would most like to be.
The Aussie goes flat when he hears the the Scotsman's guess. Who do you think it will be?
You either love this movie or hate it - we loved it - and we fanboy and drool over Bradley Cooper.
Lots of impersonations by the Aussie in this one - enjoy . We did!
